Truncated sequential sign tests for location shift
Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods, 1989A truncated sequential sign test for location shift is studied when the null or target location has been estimated from a prior, fixed sample. If the randomness of the target is ignored then the test is shown to be strongly anticonservative, the degree being proportional to the ratio of the truncation point to the fixed sample size.

Predicting topic shift locations in design histories
Research in Engineering Design, 2012Knowing the locations of weak-to-strong topic shifts in a design history enables hierarchical segmentation of that history. The segmentation can be the basis of hierarchical visualization, that is, semantic zoom, and more, such as visualization of co-location, co-citation, and density of linking.

Newsprint Mills in Australia: A story of shifting optimum location
Australian Geographer, 2001The focus in this paper is on the shifting optimum location for a newsprint mill in Australia, factors influencing this shift, and the implications for a particular manufacturing site that is becoming increasingly outdated and out-of-place. Shipping times and schedules for high-volume, high-density tonnages of commodities such as newsprint have altered

Frequency shift discrimination: Can homing pigeons locate infrasounds by Doppler shifts?
Journal of Comparative Physiology ? A, 1981Homing pigeons can detect small shifts in sound frequency at 1, 2, 5, 10, and 20 Hz. Their thresholds range from a 1% shift at 20 Hz to a 7% shift at 1 Hz. The frequency shifts used were designed to simulate the natural Doppler shifts resulting from changes in flight path.

A CONTINUOUSLY ADAPTIVE RANK TEST FOR SHIFT IN LOCATION
Australian <html_ent glyph="@amp;" ascii="&"/> New Zealand Journal of Statistics, 2005Summary This paper considers the problem of testing for shift in location when the symmetry of the underlying distribution is in doubt. Various adaptive test procedures have been suggested in the literature; they are mainly based on a preliminary test or measure of asymmetry, and then choosing between the sign or the Wilcoxon tests accordingly ...

Locational verbs, agreement, and object shift in Japanese
The Linguistic Review, 2000In Japanese, the locational verbs iru (animate) and aru (inanimate) can express locative-existential meanings when they are intransitive, and possessive meanings when they are transitive. The animacy alternation that occurs between aru and iru is conditioned by the subject of an intransitive locative-existential verb, and by the object of a transitive ...

Wavefield dependency on virtual shifts in the source location
Geophysical Prospecting, 2011ABSTRACTThe wavefield dependence on a virtual shift in the source location can provide information helpful in velocity estimation and interpolation. However, the secondāorder partial differential equation (PDE) that relates changes in the wavefield form (or shape) to lateral perturbations in the source location depends explicitly on lateral derivatives
