Bipedal Locomotion

Science, 1987
In the letter "Tanker 'dumping' regulations" by T. S. Wyman (5 June, p. 1160), the years of amendations to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, mentioned in the second paragraph, were incorrect. The amendations were made in 1978, 1984, and 1985 (not 1987).

Experimental assessment of the dynamic performance of slave control locomotive couplers in 20,000-tonne heavy-haul trains

Proceedings of the Institution of mechanical engineers. Part F, journal of rail and rapid transit, 2021
Coupler jack-knifing and derailment of slave control locomotives in 20,000-tonne heavy-haul trains usually occur due to the combinations of large in-train forces with poor track conditions. This paper presents an experimental investigation on the dynamic

Reciprocal relationship between locomotive syndrome and social frailty in older adults

Geriatrics & Gerontology International, 2021
States of vulnerability are multidimensional and become more prevalent with advancing age. These states and the causal relationships between them, merit thorough investigation.

Effects of wheelset flexibility on locomotive–track interaction due to rail weld irregularities

Vehicle System Dynamics, 2021
Irregularities of rail joints ordinarily induce high-frequency impacts on wheel–rail contact systems, which may further influence vehicle–track interaction. In this study, a three-dimensional locomotive-track coupled dynamics model that uses the wheelset

Locomotion.

Hospital management, 2002
Abstract Not all gastropods are slow moving. The pelagic species, such as the pteropod Clione, are strong swimmers that can swim at speeds up to 50 cm/second. However, the vast majority of gastropods locomote not by swimming, but by crawling, and they are indeed slow.

Relationship between locomotive syndrome, frailty and sarcopenia: Locomotive syndrome overlapped in the majority of frailty and sarcopenia patients

Geriatrics & Gerontology International, 2021
The relationship between locomotive syndrome (LS), frailty and sarcopenia is unclear. This cohort study investigates the epidemiology of the three conditions and examines the relationship between them.

Wheel/rail dynamic interaction induced by polygonal wear of locomotive wheels

Vehicle System Dynamics, 2020
Serious wheel polygonal wear usually causes drastic wheel/rail interactions, which threats the running safety of railway vehicles. This paper presents an investigation into the effect of polygonal wear of heavy-haul locomotive wheels on the dynamic ...

Non-Hertzian contact analysis of heavy-haul locomotive wheel/rail dynamic interactions under changeable friction conditions

Vehicle System Dynamics, 2021
Wheel/rail dynamic interactions of heavy-haul locomotives are highly nonlinear and complicated due to large traction/braking loads, frequent anti-slip control and complex wheel/rail interface environment.

Slipping Detection of Electric Locomotive Based on Empirical Wavelet Transform, Fuzzy Entropy Algorithm and Support Vector Machine

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2021
During the running of electric locomotives, a large amount of operating data will be stored through the Analog-Digital Converter (ADC) and the recording oscillograph of the on-board Traction Control Unit (TCU).

Fish Locomotion

2001
Fish locomotion shows the key features related to swimming. The functional anatomy of relevant parts is described. Species with special swimming skills are discussed. Kinematics of undulations of body and tail and swimming styles using paired and unpaired appendages are described.
