Probabilistic evaluation of loess landslide impact using multivariate model

Landslides, 2020
The Loess Plateau is the largest loess accumulation area around the world, onto which loess landslides have been occurring frequently each year, thus bringing significant threats to communities there. To mitigate or manage the risk brought by loess landslides, many methods have been developed to gain insights into mechanisms that trigger loess ...

Deformation Characteristics of Loess Landslide along the Contact between Loess and Neocene Red Mudstone

Acta Geologica Sinica - English Edition, 2005
Abstract  The loess landslide along the contact between loess and Neogene red mudstone (NRM) is one of those that have occurred extensively and frequently in loess areas of China. To better understand the mechanism of this type of landslides, a distressed loess slope being subjected to deformation along the loess‐NRM contact was comprehensively ...

Hypermobility of a Catastrophic Earthquake-Induced Loess Landslide

Engineering Geology
Landslide mobility refers to how far and fast a landslide can move downslope. It controls landslide impact areas and damage power. Highly mobile landslides are often initiated on slopes steeper than 30°. However, on 18 December 2023, an earthquake-induced landslide (35°52′54″N, 102°51′10″E) exhibited extraordinary mobility, with an overall travel angle

Possible failure mechanisms of landslides in loess deposits [PDF]

open access: possible, 2012

The Physical and Mechanic Properties of the Loess Landslide

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
The loess landslide in BaDong city, HuBei province China suffers great losses, which is an extremely typical landslide disaster. Variation in water level in the Yangtse River and rainfall has enormous influence on the loess landslide disaster. Some tests on loess have been done, which mainly include water content influence on shear strength of the ...

Liquefaction of loess landslides as a consequence of irrigation

Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology, 2018
Most landslides on the Loess Tableland (Shaanxi, China) are of the sliding-flow type, with long run-out distances. These landslides, which tend to be triggered by irrigation, result in loss of life and damage to infrastructure. In order to reveal the characteristics and mechanisms of sliding-flow landslides, field investigations, surveys and indoor ...

Types and characteristics of loess landslides at Heifangtai Loess Plateau, China

2010

Distribution and genetic types of loess landslides in China

Journal of Asian Earth Sciences, 2019
Abstract In this study, 14,544 loess landslides collected from the Loess Plateau of China are used to reveal their distribution and origins. Main factors considered include landslide density, regional tectonics, soil properties, geomorphic structure, rainfall distribution, seismic activity, and human activity.

Evaluation of failure mechanics of giant thick loess landslide

2011 International Conference on Multimedia Technology, 2011
Based on the analysis of the engineering geological conditions of the giant loess landslide, it was induced to slide again caused by slope-cut during the highway construction. The site investigation and study revealed that the stress inside the thick loess slope has been changed slowly, which resulted in tension fracture settlement in the crown ...
