Evaluating stream power distribution along river longitudinal profiles using Log S – log A plots

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology: Regional Studies
Study region: Eighteen main rivers in Taiwan. Study focus: This study focused on the analysis of total stream power (TSP) and specific stream power (SSP) along river longitudinal profiles, which are critical indicators of river dynamics.

DNase1 RS1053874 Polymorphism is Associated with Early Neurological Recovery through NET Modulation and with Long‐Term Survival in Ischemic Stroke: A Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Immunothrombosis contributes to ischemic stroke pathophysiology through neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) formation, which promotes thrombus stabilization and microvascular dysfunction. DNase1 is the principal endonuclease responsible for NET degradation.

Log-concave poset inequalities

open access: yesJournal of the Association for Mathematical Research
We study combinatorial inequalities for various classes of set systems: matroids, polymatroids, poset antimatroids, and interval greedoids. We prove log-concave inequal- ities for counting certain weighted feasible words, which generalize and extend several previous results establishing Mason conjectures for the numbers of independent sets of matroids.

Exergy and Economic Analysis of Hybrid Mechanical Vapor Compression and Membrane Distillation

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hybridization of two or more desalination processes has been identified as an attractive option for improved energy efficiency and recovery rate. To appropriately assess the performance enhancement of hybrid desalination systems, an integrated approach for energy, exergy, economic, and environmental investigations should be adopted. This study

Elasticity of substitution of renewable energy for nuclear power: Evidence from the Korean electricity industry

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2019
This study suggests a simple economic model to analyze electricity grid that consists of different power sources. The substitutability of renewable energy for nuclear power in Korean electricity transmission network is investigated by suggested model ...

Log-concave Ridge Estimation

open access: yes, 2020
We develop a density ridge search algorithm based on a novel density ridge definition. This definition is based on a conditional variance matrix and the mode in the lower dimensional subspace. It is compared to the subspace constraint mean shift algorithm, based on the gradient and Hessian of the underlying probability density function.

The morphology of the oval window in Paranthropus robustus compared to humans and other modern primates

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The oval window (OW) is an opening connecting the inner and middle ear. Its area has been shown to consistently scale with body mass (BM) in primates, and has been used alongside semi‐circular canal (SCC) size to differentiate Homo sapiens and fossil hominins, including Paranthropus robustus.

Complex dynamics and control investigation of a Cournot triopoly game formed based on a log-concave demand function

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2017
This article investigates the dynamics of a Cournot triopoly game whose demand function is characterized by log-concavity. The game is formed using the bounded rationality approach.
