Hearing Impairment and the Log-Normal Distribution

Applied Statistics, 1996
SUMMARY Data on hearing impairment are studied by using a three-parameter log-normal distribution, all of whose parameters depend on covariates. The fitting algorithm is an extension of generalized linear modelling. Questions for research include the estimation of a base-line distribution of hearing threshold levels for an 'unexposed' population and ...

Capacity of log-normal fading channels

Proceedings of the 2007 international conference on Wireless communications and mobile computing, 2007
This paper investigates the capacity of log-normal fading channels with receiver channel state information. We provide a closed-form expression for the ergodic capacity of the log-normal fading channel. Since the developed expression involves an infinite series, we show that the error that results from the truncation of this series is insignificant ...

Radon: exploring the log-normal mystery

Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2010
The term "log-normal mysticism" has been coined by Tóth et al. (2006) for the so far unexplained observation that indoor radon concentration data from geographical surveys very often appear to be quite accurately log-normally distributed. In this contribution, I try to verify the statement with the dataset of the Austrian indoor radon survey and data ...

Bayesian and Non-Bayesian Analysis of the Log-Normal Distribution and Log-Normal Regression

Journal of the American Statistical Association, 1971
Abstract In this article, Bayesian and non-Bayesian methods for estimating parameters of the log-normal distribution and of log-normal regression processes are considered. Posterior distributions for parameters of interest are derived and their properties are described. With respect to point estimation, a rather broad class of estimators is defined and,

It Is Time to Shift Log-Normal

The Journal of Derivatives, 2017
The contribution of the LIBOR Market Model (LLM) by Brace, Gatarek, Musiela [1997] and Miltersen, Sandmann, and Sondermann [1997] is its justification of using the BS model in the cap market. This convenience has helped the industry incredibly in that a simple solution is enough to price caps (and floors). Yet this convenience comes with a price, which

A log-normal model for individual bioequivalence

Journal of Biopharmaceutical Statistics, 1993
A log-normal model is developed for testing pi 1, the probability that a subject's response will fall within given bioequivalence limits. The model is a parametric analog of Anderson and Hauck's TIER rule. Confidence intervals and hypothesis tests are derived. Statistical power is compared with the that of the TIER rule.

Stochastic Dominance among Log-Normal Prospects

International Economic Review, 1973
THE MEAN-VARIANCE EFFICIENCY ANALYSIS introduced by Markowitz [16] and Tobin [24] is a valid decision rule either for the case in which the utility function is quadratic or if the returns are normally distributed and risk-aversion is assumed.2 The notion of stochastic dominance has recently been developed by Quirk and Saposnik [18], Hadar and Russell ...

Δ Log-Normal Statistical Methodology Performance

Environmental Science & Technology, 1994
The purpose of this report is to present the results of a simulation study conducted to evaluate the bias and root mean square error (RMSE) properties of the mean estimator for the D-LOG methodology under analysis conditions typically encoutered during water quality ...

Log-normal distributions in parasitology

Proceedings: Animal Sciences, 1984
A uniform log-normal pattern of frequency distribution of cestodes and nematodes in poikilothermic and homeothermic hosts from Garhwal Himalayan ecosystems by size and weight classes during infection period indicates subtle relationship to the range of variation in the earth’s environment.

The log-normal distribution function

Journal of Chemical Education, 1972
The log-normal distribution function is a useful function that could be profitably introduced to the undergraduate and used more frequently in chemical research because of its relatively simple analytical form and the diverse physical mechanisms and models that can generate it.
