Biochemical complexity drives log-normal variation in genetic expression

open access: yesEngineering Biology, 2017
Cells exhibit a high degree of variation in levels of gene expression, even within otherwise homogeneous populations. The standard model to describe this variation centres on a gamma distribution driven by stochastic bursts of translation.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Flow Enabled Target Capture Halbach‐based magnetic enrichment increases circulating tumor cell capture from blood in metastatic cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pair‐wise comparison of the CellSearch and FETCH enrichment technologies for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from metastatic breast, prostate, and small cell lung cancer patients shows an increased capture of CTCs using FETCH enrichment. The clinical implementation of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) as a predictive tool for therapy efficacy in the ...

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

INTEGRATED STATISTICAL MODELLING OF IRON EXCEEDANCE RISK: A MONTE CARLO, LOGISTIC REGRESSION, RANDOM FOREST, AND SOBOL ANALYSIS APPROACH

open access: yesBarekeng
The quality of water resources in the Inaouen watershed, northern Morocco, is increasingly threatened by metal contamination, particularly iron (Fe). This study implements an integrated statistical framework to assess the risk of exceeding regulatory ...

Fragile extended phases in the log-normal Rosenzweig-Porter model

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2020
In this paper, we suggest an extension of the Rosenzweig-Porter (RP) model, the LN-RP model, in which the off-diagonal matrix elements have a wide, log-normal distribution.

Log-Normal Superstatistics for Brownian Particles in a Heterogeneous Environment

open access: yesPhysics, 2020
Superstatistical approaches have played a crucial role in the investigations of mixtures of Gaussian processes. Such approaches look to describe non-Gaussian diffusion emergence in single-particle tracking experiments realized in soft and biological ...

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Stochastic Volatility Effects on Correlated Log-Normal Random Variables

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics, 2017
The transition density function plays an important role in understanding and explaining the dynamics of the stochastic process. In this paper, we incorporate an ergodic process displaying fast moving fluctuation into constant volatility models to express
