Log-Normal Distribution of Tablet Pore Diameters
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1974The use of the log-normal distribution applied to the pore characteristics of tablets is discussed. An analytical method for the determination of the geometric mean pore diameter is presented and applied to several tablet samples. The method eliminates the necessity of plotting the pore volume data, eliminates subjective evaluation, and is amenable to ...

Estimators of Log-Normal Distribution Parameters
IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 1977The maximum likelihood estimates of the median m and mean-to-median ratio ? for a log-normally distributed variate are derived, together with the asymptotic variances of these estimates. Using a Monte Carlo simulation, it is shown that these asymptotic variances of the estimates are reasonable when the number of sample points is N ? 50forp ? 8.

Normal or Log-normal: Appropriate Distributions
Nature, 1967I WISH to point out that for the statistical analysis of certain types of data the assumption that the data are drawn from a normal population is usually wrong, and that the alternative assumption of a log-normal distribution is better. This alternative is widely used by statisticians, economists and physicists, but for some reason is often ignored by ...

Distribution of smallest log-normal and gamma extremes
Statistische Hefte, 1975The asymptotic distribution of the first order statistic X(1) of log-Normal and Gamma samples is considered. The parameters of this extreme value asymptote (Weibull distribution) are approximated in terms of the initial sample size n and the parameters of the initial log-Normal and Gamma measurement models.

Detection Probabilities for Log-Normally Distributed Signals
IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 1967The amplitude and power of a large family of radio signals are observed to have log-normal probability density functions. Among these are signals propagated through random inhomogeneous media, a notable example being low frequency atmospheric radio noise.

Permanence of the Log-Normal Distribution*
Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1968The distribution of the sum of log-normal variates is shown for most cases of interest to be very accurately represented by a log-normal distribution instead of a normal or Rayleigh distribution that might be expected from the central-limit theorem.

Moments of truncated bivariate log-normal distributions
Economics Letters, 1985Abstract In this paper, we derive the expressions for the moments of truncated bivariate log-normal distributions. The results are then applied to test the Houthakker effect in futures markets.

The Normal and Log-Normal Distributions
1984The binomial and Poisson distributions restrict the variable X to integer values. Two theoretical distributions that allow it to assume fractional values as well are the normal and log-normal distributions. Each is applicable to a wide variety of random variables.

Generalized log-normal distributions with reliability application
Computational Statistics & Data Analysis, 1995Abstract A specific scale must be used to collect data in an experiment, but this scale may or may not be the appropriate scale to analyze the data thus collected. In this paper, we study a family of three-parameter distributions which includes the log-normal distribution as a special case, and one of the parameters plays the role of choosing a ...
