Using Airborne Laser Scanning and Sentinel‐2 to Understand Subcanopy Light Regimes and Understory Diversity of Vascular Plants in Temperate Mountain Forests

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that not just Airborne Laser Scanning, but also Sentinel‐2 can effectively estimate absolute canopy cover and canopy cover heterogeneity ‐ structural metrics that determine the subcanopy light regime, found to be linked to the vascular plant species richness in the understory of temperate mountain forests.

The Macroeconomic Drivers of Carbon Emissions in East Africa: Capital‐Driven Versus Trade‐Driven Globalization

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT East Africa has recorded strong economic growth over the past three decades alongside a steady rise in carbon emissions, raising concerns about whether the region can sustain growth without worsening environmental pressures. This study incorporates key macroeconomic drivers of carbon emissions using panel data for 9 countries from 1990 to 2023,

Financial Inclusion and Carbon‐Intensive Path Dependence: Evidence From Oil‐Exporting Economies

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines whether financial inclusion mitigates environmental degradation or, conversely, reinforces carbon‐intensive development pathways in oil‐exporting economies, consistent with carbon lock‐in dynamics. Drawing on resource curse and structural specialization frameworks, we argue that financial deepening may amplify carbon ...

European Circular Economy Structural Typology Based on Multivariate Analysis of Latent Dimensions and Transition Pathways

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Transition towards a circular economy has become a strategic priority for the European Union, although Member States continue to exhibit substantial differences in economic performance, resource efficiency and circular economy implementation. Understanding these structural differences is essential for designing effective policy interventions ...

Financial Inclusion, Energy Transition, and Sustainable Development in Sub‐Saharan Africa: A Distributional Panel Analysis

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sub‐Saharan Africa (SSA) faces pressing financing and structural transitions to achieve the 2030 Agenda, yet the distributional relationships linking financial inclusion and renewable energy adoption to sustainable development goal (SDG) achievement remain underexplored. This study investigates the roles of multidimensional financial inclusion
