Magnetoreception Abilities in Juvenile Loggerhead Sea Turtles
2017Loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) complete extensive, open-ocean migrations around the North Atlantic subtropical gyre current system over the course of many years. Evidence suggests that magnetoreception, or the ability to detect the Earth’s magnetic field, plays a role in their ability to navigate large, open areas lacking obvious cues.

Loggerhead sea turtles as bioturbators in marine ecosystems
2008The northern Adriatic Sea is one of the most important foraging habitats for loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) in the Mediterranean. Its shallow continental shelf, favorable sea temperatures and rich benthic communities constitute feeding areas for loggerheads in neritic stage.
