The Log of Gravity [PDF]

open access: yesThe Review of Economics and Statistics, 2003
AbstractAlthough economists have long been aware of Jensen's inequality, many econometric applications have neglected an important implication of it: under heteroskedasticity, the parameters of log-linearized models estimated by OLS lead to biased estimates of the true elasticities.

On log motives [PDF]

open access: yesTunisian Journal of Mathematics, 2020
We define the categories of log motives and log mixed motives. The latter gives a new formulation for the category of mixed motives. We prove that the former is a semisimple abelian category if and only if the numerical equivalence and homological equivalence coincide, and that it is also equivalent to that the latter is a Tannakian category.

Reconciling timber extraction with biodiversity conservation in tropical forests using reduced-impact logging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Over 20% of the world's tropical forests have been selectively logged, and large expanses are allocated for future timber extraction. Reduced-impact logging (RIL) is being promoted as best practice forestry that increases sustainability and lowers CO2 ...

Boundary detection capability and influencing factors of electromagnetic resistivity while using drilling tools in a horizontal well

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
With the increase in the scale of mining in horizontal and highly deviated wells, electromagnetic boundary detection while drilling plays an important role in boundary detection.

Salvage logging effects on regulating ecosystem services and fuel loads

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and the Environment, 2020
(1) Salvage logging, or logging after natural disturbances such as wildfires, insect outbreaks, and windstorms, is carried out to recover some of a forest’s natural and/or economic capital. However, trade- offs between management objectives and a lack of

The Meaning of Logs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
While logging events is becoming increasingly common in computing, in communication and in collaborative environments, log systems need to satisfy increasingly challenging (if not conflicting) requirements. In this paper we propose a high-level framework for modeling log systems, and reasoning about them.

Efficient Logging in Non-Volatile Memory by Exploiting Coherency Protocols [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Non-volatile memory (NVM) technologies such as PCM, ReRAM and STT-RAM allow processors to directly write values to persistent storage at speeds that are significantly faster than previous durable media such as hard drives or SSDs.
