A hidden Markov model and reinforcement learning‐based strategy for fault‐tolerant control

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract This study introduces a data‐driven control strategy integrating hidden Markov models (HMM) and reinforcement learning (RL) to achieve resilient, fault‐tolerant operation against persistent disturbances in nonlinear chemical processes. Called hidden Markov model and reinforcement learning (HMMRL), this strategy is evaluated in two case studies

On Prucnal's model-determined logic and definable predicates [PDF]

open access: yesReports Math. Log., 2004
Summary: \textit{T. Prucnal}'s concept of a logic determined by a model [Bull. Sect. Log., Pol. Acad. Sci. 19, 58--60 (1990; Zbl 0715.03002)] is discussed. It is proved that logics different from pure first-order logic can be determined by models with undecidable theories.

Noise, Non-Determinism and Spatial Uncertainty

open access: yes, 1997
This paper presents a logical account of sensor data assimilation in a mobile robot, based on abduction. Unlike previous work, the present formulation handles sensor noise as well as motor noise.

Breadth at the Helm: Generalist CEOs and Corporate ESG Performance‐Evidence From China

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drawing on the Upper Echelons Theory and the Imprinting Theory, this study conjectures that generalist CEOs may have a stronger tendency to pursue environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals. We perform multiple regression analyses with observations of Shanghai and Shenzhen A‐share listed companies from 2010 to 2023 in order to explore ...

The Language of Greenwashing: SDG Omission and Opportunity‐Oriented Environmental Tone as Alert Metrics in Green Bond Disclosures

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Green bonds play a central role in sustainable finance, yet concerns about greenwashing raise questions about the credibility of issuers' sustainability disclosures. Using dictionary‐based methods and domain‐specific BERT transformer models, this paper proposes two greenwashing alert metrics and investigates their performance by analyzing ...

A Novel Multilevel Conceptual Framework for Flood Risk Governance

open access: yesEnvironmental Policy and Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Globally, flood risk is increasing as climate change progresses. Contemporary flood risk management practice often utilises hydrodynamic modelling (for hazard risk assessments), social vulnerability assessments, and risk communications in silo, which fragments evidence‐based decision‐making for effective flood risk management. We hence develop
