Logistic Regression Revisited: Belief Function Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We show that the weighted sum and softmax operations performed in logistic regression classifiers can be interpreted in terms of evidence aggregation using Dempster’s rule of combination. From that perspective, the output probabilities from such classifiers can be seen as normalized plausibilities, for some mass functions that can be laid bare.

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

A logistic regression analysis of risk factors in ME/CFS pathogenesis

open access: yesBMC Neurology, 2019
Background Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is a complex disease, whose exact cause remains unclear. A wide range of risk factors has been proposed that helps understanding potential disease pathogenesis.

Logistic regression analysis of conventional ultrasonography, strain elastosonography, and contrast-enhanced ultrasound characteristics for the differentiation of benign and malignant thyroid nodules

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
The aim of the study is to screen the significant sonographic features by logistic regression analysis and fit a model to diagnose thyroid nodules. A total of 525 pathological thyroid nodules were retrospectively analyzed.

Safety of Daprodustat for the Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease Anemia: Final Analysis of a Multicenter Postmarketing Surveillance Study in Japan

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction This final analysis of a multicenter, prospective postmarketing surveillance study evaluated the safety of daprodustat in patients with chronic kidney disease anemia in routine clinical practice in Japan. Methods Patients who initiated daprodustat between September 2020 and July 2022 were registered.

Multivariate logistic regression analysis using multilevel model

open access: yesJournal of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, 2018
Background & Aim: One of the basic assumptions in simple linear regression models is the statistical independence of observations. Sometimes this assumption is not true for study subject and consequently the use of general regression models may not be ...

Noncollapsibility and its role in quantifying confounding bias in logistic regression

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology, 2021
Background Confounding bias is a common concern in epidemiological research. Its presence is often determined by comparing exposure effects between univariable- and multivariable regression models, using an arbitrary threshold of a 10% difference to ...

Association Between Individualized Education for Kidney Replacement Therapy Modality Selection and Peritoneal Dialysis Initiation: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an established home‐based kidney replacement therapy (KRT), but its uptake remains low in Japan. We evaluated whether individualized education in a dedicated outpatient clinic was associated with the initiation of PD.
