Estimating red deer Cervus elaphus population density using drones in a steep and rugged terrain

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Precise and accurate information about population density, crucial for wildlife management, is difficult to obtain for elusive species living in dense forests or steep and inaccessible terrain. Using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), we developed a method for obtaining absolute population estimates of ungulates living in steep, rugged, and partly ...

Integrating infection intensity and aggregation into the dynamics of pathogens with within‐host replication

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
We bridge micro‐ and macroparasite theory with a model tracking pathogen load heterogeneity. By incorporating load‐dependent mortality and within‐host pathogen growth, we show how pathogen load aggregation alters disease prevalence, host suppression effects, and virulence evolution, providing insights for managing complex infectious disease like ...

Digging into dirt: Rewilding with threatened mammals shapes soil‐emerging insect assemblages

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
By comparing insect communities across treatments at two time points, we show that reintroduced digging mammals shape soil‐emerging insect assemblages. This provides empirical evidence that restoring ecosystem engineers may drive broader community‐level change in semi‐arid ecosystems. Abstract Digging mammals function as ecosystem engineers by altering

Novel method to calculate average bit error probability of UWB non-coherent system

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2010
A novel method based on clustered point process was proposed to calculate average bit error probability(ABEP) of UWB non-coherent system on IEEE 802.15.3a channel. In particular, the expectation and variance of the sig-nal to noise ratio(SNR) in the ...

Intra‐ and Interspecific Effects on Spatio‐Temporal Behavior of Common Commensal Rodent Species

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This study revealed major findings on spatio‐temporal behavior of commensal rodents on a pig farm showing the influence of interspecific dominance on movement behavior and the resulting species‐specific ecological adaptations. Additionally, rodents tend to stay in their home ranges and migration to other stable buildings is only rare.

Option Pricing with Normal Mixture Returns: Modelling Excess Kurtosis and Uncertanity in Volatility [PDF]

open access: yes
his paper addresses the problem of uncertainty in volatility, and how this affects option prices. The volatility uncertainty adjustment to Black-Scholes option prices is quantified in this paper using a normal mixture model for the distribution of ...

MorphSim: An R package for simulating discrete morphological data

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Morphological data are essential for reconstructing evolutionary histories, particularly for fossil taxa, as they represent the primary source of information for integrating extinct lineages into phylogenetic analyses. Despite this, tools for simulating realistic morphological datasets for fossil‐inclusive phylogenetic workflows remain limited.

The Partial Distribution: Definition, Properties and Applications in Economy [PDF]

open access: yes
In this discussed draft, we want to present the Partial Distribution (F.Dai, 2001) for discussing. We compare the partial distribution with lognormal and levy distribution.

Mitigating policy uncertainty: What financial markets reveal about firm‐level lobbying

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Political Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Elections can lead to substantial policy changes and, thus, are a significant source of risk. Firms can respond to such policy uncertainty by lobbying, but it is hard to quantify whether they do so and, if so, how much lobbying benefits them. We construct a new dataset and leverage investors’ expectations of variability in stock returns in the
