The Rise of Certificate Transparency and Its Implications on the Internet Ecosystem

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper, we analyze the evolution of Certificate Transparency (CT) over time and explore the implications of exposing certificate DNS names from the perspective of security and privacy.

Linked dimers of the AAA+ ATPase Msp1 reveal energetic demands and mechanistic plasticity for substrate extraction from lipid bilayers

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells must clear mislocalized or faulty proteins from membranes to survive. The AAA+ ATPase Msp1 performs this task, but dissecting how its six subunits work together is challenging. We engineered linked dimers with varied numbers of functional subunits to reveal how Msp1 subunits cooperate and use energy to extract proteins from the lipid bilayer ...

Influence of Storage Time and Log Length on the Distribution of Wood Chip Size

open access: yesBioResources, 2023
Chip size distribution is important in kraft pulping, as it affects chemical use, quality, and yield in pulp production. Pinus taeda logs with two storage periods (0 and 2 weeks) and two log lengths (2.4 and 7.0 m) were processed with a disc chipper ...

HUBUNGAN ANTARA BERAT DENGAN VOLUME KAYU ACACIA MANGIUM DI SUBANJERIJI, SUMATERA SELATAN: STUDI KASUS DI PT MHP

open access: yesJurnal Penelitian Hasil Hutan (Journal of Forest Products Research), 2017
This study evaluated a method for estimating relationship between weight and volume of log of Acacia mangium. DBH of 50 trees (planted in 1991) in a sample plot in Subanjeriji had been measured, and the trees were then felled and bucked into 2.50 m logs ...

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

Log–canonical forms and log canonical singularities

open access: yesMathematische Nachrichten, 2003
AbstractFor a normal subvarietyVof ℂnwith a good ℂ*–action we give a simple characterization for when it has only log canonical, log terminal or rational singularities. Moreover we are able to give formulas for the plurigenera of isolated singular points of such varieties and of the logarithmic Kodaira dimension ofV\{0}.

The IQ‐compete assay for measuring mitochondrial protein import efficiencies in living yeast cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The efficiency of mitochondrial protein import depends on the properties of the newly synthesized precursor proteins. The Import and de‐Quenching Competition (IQ‐compete) assay is a novel method to monitor the import efficiency of different proteins by fluorescence in living yeast cells.

Cross Validation Of Neural Network Applications For Automatic New Topic Identification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
There are recent studies in the literature on automatic topic-shift identification in Web search engine user sessions; however most of this work applied their topic-shift identification algorithms on data logs from a single search engine.

Comparing self‐reported race and genetic ancestry for identifying potential differentially methylated sites in endometrial cancer: insights from African ancestry proportions using machine learning models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Integrating ancestry, differential methylation analysis, and machine learning, we identified robust epigenetic signature genes (ESGs) and Core‐ESGs in Black and White women with endometrial cancer. Core‐ESGs (namely APOBEC1 and PLEKHG5) methylation levels were significantly associated with survival, with tumors from high African ancestry (THA) showing ...

PENGARUH POLA PENGGERGAJIAN TERHADAP RENDEMEN DAN WAKTU MENGGERGAJI KAYU MERANTI (SHOREA SPP.) *)

open access: yesJurnal Penelitian Hasil Hutan (Journal of Forest Products Research), 2017
The  effects  of sawing pattern on recovery  and sawing   time   was studied  using  72 logs of meranti  (Shorea spp.).  The logs were divided  into  4 grades  i.e., Prime, First,  Second  and Local, each group consisting of 18 logs.
