Programmable long period grating in a liquid core optical fiber

open access: yes
A programmable fiber long-period grating (LPG) is experimentally demonstrated in a liquid core optical fiber with a low insertion loss. The LPG is dynamically formed by a temperature gradient in real time through a micro-heater array.

Ag Nanowire‐Integrated MoS2/ZnO Heterojunctions for Highly Efficient Photogenerated Charge Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, Volume 11, Issue 6, May 2025.
A versatile strategy is reported for fabricating multi‐dimensional heterojunctions with significantly improved charge transfer capability. By integrating Ag nanowires with a MoS2/ZnO heterojunction, a fourfold increase in surface photovoltage is achieved, reaching 200 mV under visible light illumination.

Non-additivity in laser-illuminated many-atom systems

open access: yes, 2014
We show that atoms subject to laser radiation may form a non-additive many-body system on account of their long-range forces, when the atoms are trapped in the vicinity of a fiber with a Bragg grating.

Beyond Imperfect Match: Silicon/Graphite Hybrid Anodes for High‐Energy–Density Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Silicon/graphite (Si/Gr) hybrid anodes are limited by Si's large volume change and mismatch with Gr. This review offers mechanistic insights into imperfectly matched Si/Gr hybrid anodes, elucidating heterogeneous lithiation behavior and interfacial failure pathways, and thereby informing the design of durable, high‐energy–density lithium‐ion batteries.

Advances on Optical Fiber Sensors

open access: yesFibers, 2013
In this review paper some recent advances on optical fiber sensors are reported. In particular, fiber Bragg grating (FBG), long period gratings (LPGs), evanescent field and hollow core optical fiber sensors are mentioned. Examples of recent optical fiber

Experimental realization of transverse mode conversion using optically induced transient long-period gratings

open access: yes, 2014
We present the experimental realization of transverse mode conversion in an optical fiber via an optically induced long-period grating. The transient gratings are generated by femtosecond laser pulses, exploiting the Kerr effect to translate intensity ...

The Future of Hydrogen‐Powered Aviation: Technologies, Challenges, and a Strategic Roadmap for Sustainable Decarbonization

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, EarlyView.
Hydrogen‐powered aviation offers a transformative pathway to zero‐emission flight by eliminating in‐flight CO2 emissions. Key considerations include propulsion systems (fuel cells and hydrogen combustion), cryogenic storage and insulation challenges, infrastructure and cost barriers, and supply‐chain constraints.

In-Fiber Subpicosecond Pulse Shaping for Nonlinear Optical Telecommunication Data Processing at 640 Gbit/s

open access: yesInternational Journal of Optics, 2012
We review recent work on all-fiber (long-period fiber grating) devices for optical pulse shaping, particularly flat-top pulse generation, down to the subpicosecond range and their application for nonlinear switching (demultiplexing) of optical time ...
