Nonlinear Long-Period Fiber Grating Coupler
Bragg Gratings, Photosensitivity, and Poling in Glass Waveguides, 2007The evanescent coupling dynamics between two nonlinear long-period fiber gratings has been theoretically investigated. The results of the calculations reveal intriguing phenomena that are useful for optical power combining, dividing, and optical mode converting.

Special long-period fiber grating devices
SPIE Proceedings, 2007ABSTRACT In this paper, special long period fiber gratings with Gauss envelope and rotary refractive index modulations, as well as ultra long period fiber grating are fabricated by using the high frequency CO 2 laser pulses exposure method. The characteristics of these LPFGs are investigated by experiment. It is anticipated that these novel LPFGs would

Development of long-period fiber grating coupling devices
Applied Optics, 2008A long-period fiber grating (LPFG) formed in a single-mode fiber is considered as an effective device to tap light from the core of fiber. This light-tapping property of the LPFG allows a new class of wavelength-selective optical couplers to be realized by using the configuration of parallel LPFGs. Over the years a number of four-port and six-port LPFG

All-optical switching in long-period fiber gratings
Optics Letters, 1997Nonlinear pulse propagation in long-period fiber gratings is studied with a mode-locked Q -switched laser pulse approximately 80ps in duration at a wavelength of 1.05 microm . Optical switching, pulse reshaping, and optical limiting are found at intensities in the range of 1-20 GW/cm(2).

Long-period fiber gratings based on periodic microbends
Optics Letters, 1999We demonstrate a new type of high-performance long-period fiber grating based on arc-induced periodic microbends. The fabrication method is simple and does not require special fibers. Flexibility in controlling the filter parameters makes it possible to produce arbitrary filter profiles by use of a simple apodization technique, which is difficult to do

Long-period fiber gratings as ultrafast optical differentiators
Optics Letters, 2005It is demonstrated that a single, uniform long-period fiber grating (LPFG) working in the linear regime inherently behaves as an ultrafast optical temporal differentiator. Specifically, we show that the output temporal waveform in the core mode of a LPFG providing full energy coupling into the cladding mode is proportional to the first derivative of ...

3D printed long period gratings for optical fibers
Optics Letters, 2016We demonstrate a simple technique for implementing long period grating (LPG) structures by the use of a 3D printer. This Letter shows a way of manipulating the mode coupling within an optical fiber by applying stress through an external 3D printed periodic structure.

Femtosecond-written long-period gratings in fluoride fibers
Optics Letters, 2018Long-period gratings induced in fluoride glass fibers using femtosecond laser pulses at 800 nm are, to the best of our knowledge, demonstrated for the first time. By means of tightly confined ultrashort laser pulses, smooth periodic lines of refractive index changes are induced along the fiber core.

Structural long-period gratings in photonic crystal fibers
Optics Letters, 2002We report what is believed to be the first example of structural long-period gratings written in pure silica photonic crystal fibers (PCFs). The gratings are realized by periodic collapse of the holes of the PCF by heat treatment with a CO(2) laser. The resulting periodic hole-size perturbation produces core-to-cladding-mode conversion.

Progress in long period fiber gratings
Conference Proceedings. LEOS'98. 11th Annual Meeting. IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society 1998 Annual Meeting (Cat. No.98CH36243), 2002Summary form only given. Long period fiber gratings have been used in a variety of applications such as gain equalization filters for optical amplifiers, band rejection filters and sensors for temperature and strain. Among these applications, gain equalization is the most demanding and interesting because of the impact of broadband gain-flattened EDFA ...
