Long-period gratings in chemical sensing [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2008
A chemical sensor system consisting of a coated long period grating, which was spliced into a fiber loop cavity, has been prepared and characterized. Designer coatings based on polydimethylsiloxane and nanostructured organically modified silica (ORMOSIL) materials were prepared to provide enhanced sensitivity for a variety of key environmental ...

Helical Long Period Fiber Grating Inscribed in Elliptical Core Polarization-Maintaining Fiber

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
A high-quality helical long period fiber grating (HLPFG) in elliptical core polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) was experimentally demonstrated by using the hydrogen-oxygen flame heating technique.

Virtual long-period fiber gratings [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2004
In this paper a theoretical prediction of a new kind of in-fiber devices is presented. They behave essentially like long-period Bragg gratings except for the fact that they are not permanent but volatile. This is because these devices are not formed by the UV-induced increment of the refractive index but by the twisting of a pristine HiBi fiber.

Structural microfiber long-period gratings

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
We experimentally demonstrate a novel structural long-period grating by helically coiling one microfiber onto another with the relatively thicker diameter. Owing to the strong periodic modulation of the coiled microfiber to the evanescent field of the straight microfiber, a resonance transmission notch of ~16.2 dB can be induced for a compact device ...

Manufacturing and Spectral Features of Different Types of Long Period Fiber Gratings: Phase-Shifted, Turn-Around Point, Internally Tilted, and Pseudo-Random

open access: yesFibers, 2017
The manufacturing and spectral features of different types of long period fiber gratings (LPFGs), ranging from phase-shifted, turn-around point, and internally tilted gratings, to pseudo-random gratings, are described and discussed in detail.

In-sewer field-evaluation of an optical fibre-based condition monitoring system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
A Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) based monitoring system for continuous humidity and temperature measurement has been designed and evaluated experimentally in a sewer environment with high corrosion rates, humidity and the presence of gaseous hydrogen sulfide.

Long Period Fibre Gratings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In essence, a long period fibre grating (LPFG) is an all-fibre device with wavelength dependent loss. As a band rejection filter, all light in a spectral slice is discarded without affecting the amplitude and phase of neighbouring wavelengths, with the additional advantage of low insertion losses and minimum backreflection (Daxhelet, 2003).

Fiber Bragg Grating Bonding Characterization under Long-Period Cyclic Loading

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
The Smart Landing Gear system to be developed in the framework of the ANGELA project provides the strain measurements on landing gear structure at landings, and this system should be maintained efficiently under operational conditions.

Long-Period Fiber Grating Sensors for Chemical and Biomedical Applications

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Optical fiber biosensors (OFBS) are being increasingly proposed due to their intrinsic advantages over conventional sensors, including their compactness, potential remote control and immunity to electromagnetic interference.

Dissolved oxygen sensing using an optical fibre long period grating coated with hemoglobin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A long period grating fiber optic sensor coated with hemoglobin is used to detect dissolved oxygen. The sensitivity of this sensor to the ratio of dissolved carbon dioxide to dissolved oxygen is demonstrated via the conversion of carboxyhemoglobin to
