Discretized superimposed optical fiber long-period gratings
Optics Letters, 2020A novel technique, to the best of our knowledge, for the inscription of superimposed long-period gratings with arbitrary grating pitches is proposed and experimentally validated. The technique is based on the discretization of an ideal continuous sinusoidal refractive index (RI) pattern with a step function.

Reliability of long-period gratings
OFC '98. Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibit. Technical Digest. Conference Edition. 1998 OSA Technical Digest Series Vol.2 (IEEE Cat. No.98CH36177), 2002Summary form only given. Ever since their conception in 1996, long-period gratings (LPGs) have come to be used in a wide variety of applications. LPGs involve coupling of core and cladding modes. The importance of thermal stabilization techniques for successful use of Bragg gratings is now well acknowledged. This is even more important in LPGs, because

Arc-Induced Long-Period Gratings
Fiber and Integrated Optics, 2005Abstract The electric arc technique allows the inscription of long-period gratings (LPGs) virtually in all types of fibers, including non-photosensitive fibers, the case of non-Geādoped photonic crystal fibers being of particular interest. LPGs written in standard fibers using this technique have shown a high thermal stability.

Tunable long-period fiber grating
SPIE Proceedings, 2003Long-period fiber grating (LPFG) having grating periodicity in the hundreds of microns, functions as a band rejection filter. This device is useful for gain equalizing applications of fiber amplifiers. The transmission characteristics are mainly determined by the initial fabricating conditions such as grating periodicity and UV exposure time. Therefore,

Tunable mechanically induced long-period fiber gratings
Optics Letters, 2000We report the experimental characterization of mechanically induced long-period fiber gratings (LPFG's) made by pressing a plate with periodic grooves against a short length of fiber. This filter, which is simple and inexpensive, exhibits transmission spectra and temperature stability similar to those of photoinduced LPFG's.

Long-period gratings in wavelength-scale microfibers
Optics Letters, 2009We report the fabrication of long-period gratings (LPGs) in wavelength-scale microfibers with diameters from 1.5 to 3 microm. The LPGs were fabricated by use of a femtosecond IR laser to periodically modify the surface of the fibers. These LPGs have grating periods of a few tens of micrometers, much smaller than those in conventional optical fibers.

Magnetic-force-induced long-period fiber gratings
Optics Letters, 2012A novel formation method of a long-period fiber grating (LPFG) based on a magnetic-force-induced microbend is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The LPFG employs a permanent magnet that exerts transversal force to the fiber by attracting a steel coil spring.

Long-period gratings in planar optical waveguides
Applied Optics, 2002We present a theoretical analysis of light propagation in a four-layer planar waveguide that consists of a long-period grating (LPG) having a period of the order of 100 microm. By means of the coupled-mode theory, we show that such a structure is capable of coupling light from the fundamental guided mode to the cladding modes at specific wavelengths ...

Long-period fiber grating by electrical discharge
24th European Conference on Optical Communication. ECOC '98 (IEEE Cat. No.98TH8398), 2002Long-period gratings were manufactured by applying step by step an electric discharge through a standard telecommunication fibre. The induced perturbation was so large that less than 20 steps are necessary to obtain a coupling length.
