Long-period gratings in polymer ridge waveguides

open access: yesOptics Express, 2005
We report the design and fabrication of long-period waveguide gratings (LPWGs) in benzocyclobutene (BCB) ridge waveguides. We apply an accurate perturbation theory to analyze the LPWGs. In particular, the phase-matching condition, the coupling coefficients, the temperature dependence of the resonance wavelength, the bandwidth, and the polarization ...

Spectrally Tunable 2D Material‐Based Infrared Photodetectors for Intelligent Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent optoelectronics through spectral engineering of 2D material‐based infrared photodetectors. Abstract The evolution of intelligent optoelectronic systems is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). However, their practical realization hinges on the ability to dynamically capture and process optical signals across a broad infrared (IR) spectrum.

Chirped gratings in integrated optics [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
Gratings with variable periods (chirped gratings) have been fabricated by recording the interference pattern of a collimated laser beam with a converging beam generated by a cylindrical lens.

Broadband, Flexible, Skin‐Compatible Carbon Dots/Graphene Photodetectors for Wearable Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Broadband, flexible photodetectors integrating nitrogen‐rich carbon dots with single‐layer graphene on plastic substrates are demonstrated. A biocompatible chitosan–glycerol electrolyte enables efficient low‐voltage gating and on‐skin operation. The devices exhibit ultraviolet‐to‐near‐infrared response, mechanical robustness under bending, and verified

Long-Period Grating with Asymmetrical Modulation for Curvature Sensing

open access: yesApplied Sciences
We propose and demonstrate a curvature sensor based on long-period fiber grating (LPFG) with asymmetric index modulation. The LPFG is fabricated in single-mode fiber with femtosecond laser micromachining.

Scalable Thermal Engineering via Femtosecond Laser‐Direct‐Written Phononic Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that femtosecond laser‐induced periodic surface structures (fs‐LIPSS) can function as phononic metasurfaces, reducing thermal conductivity below the plain thin‐film limit. Phonon Monte Carlo analysis reveals that the periodic structures restrict phonon mean free paths.

Sensing Characteristics of Side-Hole Fiber-Based Long-Period Grating

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2013
Long-period gratings (LPGs) have been fabricated in a side-hole fiber (SHF) by using a pulsed CO2 laser. Sensing characteristics of this SHF-LPG to temperature surrounding refractive index and bend have been investigated.

An Ultrasensitive Long-Period Fiber Grating-Based Refractive Index Sensor with Long Wavelengths

open access: yesSensors, 2016
The response of a novel long-period fiber grating (LPFG) with a period of 180 µm to a surrounding refractive index (RI) was investigated. The results displayed that, with the increase in RI of the surrounding media of cladding glass in the grating region,
