A coherent fiber link for very long baseline interferometry [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control, 2015
We realize a coherent fiber link for application in very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) for radio astronomy and geodesy. A 550-km optical fiber connects the Italian National Metrological Institute (INRIM) to a radio telescope in Italy and is used for the primary Cs fountain clock stability and accuracy dissemination.

Optical Long Baseline Interferometry

Astrophysics and Space Science Library, 2016
Optical Long Baseline Interferometry provides unrivalled angular resolution on bright and compact astrophysical sources. The link between the observables (interferometric phase and contrast ) and the image of the source is a Fourier transform expressed first by van Cittert and Zernike .

Long-baseline interferometry

Physics Today, 1969
THE RAPID DEVELOPMENT of electronic technology has given man the ability to control electrical events in the time domain with extraordinary precision, just as the mechanical revolution of the last century improved, by orders of magnitude, our power to control linear dimensions of physical objects. Perhaps the only failure in the analogy is quantitative;

Very long baseline interferometry

Radio Science, 1986
A general review is given of very long baseline interferometry, touching on basic principles and applications, current instrumentation, organization and future developments. Some astronomical high‐lights are discussed.

Very long baseline interferometry

2005
This contribution reviews the technique of Very Long Baseline Interferometry as a tool for high precision measurements of relative point positions and spatial baseline orientation. The geodetic and geophysical applications of these measurements are discussed in relation to the objectives of global and regional programs of Earth dynamics research ...
