Magnetomechanically induced long period fiber gratings

In this work, we report a simple, flexible method to create long period fiber gratings mechanically by controlling the repulsion/attraction force between two magnets that pressing a plate with a periodic array of small glass cylinders to a short length of optical fiber.

Dipole effect in long-period fiber grating

An effect of dipole by the UV-induced birefringence was analyzed using a long-period fiber grating. It was approximately 5.6% in UV-induced refractive index change due to the photosensitivity of Ge-related glass defects in our experiment.

Fabrication of long-period fiber gratings with no harmonics

We demonstrate a method to fabricate spectrally clean long-period gratings in optical fibers. Because the photosensitivity of glass is nonlinear, even a sinusoidal light pattern will generate harmonic gratings, and these higher order gratings can cause unwanted resonances.
