Ultra-long-period fiber gratings

Proceedings 27th European Conference on Optical Communication (Cat. No.01TH8551), 2002
We report here for the first time the fabrication and characterisation of long period fiber gratings with periods of several millimetres. The resonant loss peaks of these gratings are generated from the coupling of the forward propagating guided core mode to the cladding modes of fundamental and harmonic orders.

Tunable mechanically induced long-period fiber gratings

Optics Letters, 2000
We report the experimental characterization of mechanically induced long-period fiber gratings (LPFG's) made by pressing a plate with periodic grooves against a short length of fiber. This filter, which is simple and inexpensive, exhibits transmission spectra and temperature stability similar to those of photoinduced LPFG's.

Magnetic-force-induced long-period fiber gratings

Optics Letters, 2012
A novel formation method of a long-period fiber grating (LPFG) based on a magnetic-force-induced microbend is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The LPFG employs a permanent magnet that exerts transversal force to the fiber by attracting a steel coil spring.

Long-period fiber grating by electrical discharge

24th European Conference on Optical Communication. ECOC '98 (IEEE Cat. No.98TH8398), 2002
Long-period gratings were manufactured by applying step by step an electric discharge through a standard telecommunication fibre. The induced perturbation was so large that less than 20 steps are necessary to obtain a coupling length.

Long-period fiber gratings

Bragg Gratings, Photosensitivity, and Poling in Glass Fibers and Waveguides: Applications and Fundamentals, 1997
Long period fiber gratings that couple light from guided core modes to non-guided cladding modes provide a means of introducing wavelength dependent losses in optical fiber systems.1 As a result, these in-fiber devices have found use as gain-equalizers in broadband optical fiber amplifiers,2 as band-rejection filters in high-power cascaded Raman fiber ...

Splicer-based long-period fiber gratings

OFC '98. Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibit. Technical Digest. Conference Edition. 1998 OSA Technical Digest Series Vol.2 (IEEE Cat. No.98CH36177), 2002
Summary form only given. Presents a one-step process for the fabrication of efficient, compact long-period gratings. The technique makes use ofa controlled arc to periodically modify an optical fiber by a pair of electrodes. The setup comprises a commercially available splicer whose fiber holding mechanism is replaced by a motorized stage, which allows

Wavelength tunable long-period fiber grating

Fifth Asia-Pacific Conference on ... and Fourth Optoelectronics and Communications Conference on Communications,, 1999
Wavelength tunable long-period fiber gratings in specially designed optical fibers, which have temperature sensitivity of /spl plusmn/15 nm/100/spl deg/C, have been developed. The temperature sensitivity was three times greater than that in dispersion shifted fiber.

Magnetomechanically induced long period fiber gratings

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2008
In this work, we report a simple, flexible method to create long period fiber gratings mechanically by controlling the repulsion/attraction force between two magnets that pressing a plate with a periodic array of small glass cylinders to a short length of optical fiber.

Dual-twist fiber long period gratings

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
Long period fiber gratings couple core and co-propagating cladding modes to produce dips in the transmission spectrum and have been widely utilized as sensors and filters. We have recently developed a new approach to long period fiber gratings utilizing optical fibers, which are uniformly twisted at elevated temperatures to produce double or single ...
