High Temperature Optical Fiber Sensor Based on Compact Fattened Long-Period Fiber Gratings [PDF]
A compact high temperature fiber sensor where the sensor head consists of a short fattened long period fiber grating (F-LPFG) of at least 2 mm in length and background loss of −5 dBm is reported.

Multi-Parameter Sensing Device to Detect Liquid Layers Using Long-Period Fiber Gratings [PDF]
Insoluble liquids show layers such as water and oil. The detection of the exact interface locations and the level changes for layered liquids are of paramount importance for chemistry purifications, liquid storage in reservoirs, oil transportation, and ...

Arc-Induced Long Period Fiber Gratings [PDF]
Long period fiber gratings produced by the electric arc technique have found an increasing interest by the scientific community due to their ease to fabricate, virtually enabling the inscription in any kind of fiber, low cost, and flexibility. In 2005 we

Double-clad fibers where the second cladding has a lower refractive index than the first cladding, prove to be ideal structures for potentiating and tuning the sensitivity in long-period fiber gratings (LPFGs) operating in mode transition.

In this paper, we have briefly review the developing history and recent advances made with regard to helical long-period fiber gratings (HLPGs) in three aspects, i.e., the mode-coupling theories, the fabrication techniques, and the applications.

Phase-inserted fiber gratings (PI-FGs) refer to those gratings where there exist a number of the phase-shifts (spatial spacing) among different sections (or local periods) of the gratings themselves. All the PI-FGs developed to date can mainly be divided

We propose and demonstrate the inscription of parallel long-period gratings (LPGs) in a few-mode fiber (FMF) using femtosecond lasers. Mode conversion from the fundamental (LP01) mode to high-order core modes, including LP11, LP21, LP31, LP02, and LP12 ...

Mode Characteristics and Sensing Performance of Fiber Gratings
Fiber gratings are special optical fibers with a periodic refractive index distribution when the refractive index of the fiber core is modulated. Both the angle and period of the gratings have an influence on the sensing properties of the fiber gratings.

Virtual long-period fiber gratings [PDF]
In this paper a theoretical prediction of a new kind of in-fiber devices is presented. They behave essentially like long-period Bragg gratings except for the fact that they are not permanent but volatile. This is because these devices are not formed by the UV-induced increment of the refractive index but by the twisting of a pristine HiBi fiber.

The calculation of a two-cascade long-period fiber grating of the refractive index
A method is proposed for calculating the spectral characteristics of cascade long-period fiber gratings of the refractive index of the core based on the method of partial regions and decomposition. According to the method, the structure is represented as
