Micro‐Laue diffraction and excited optical X‐ray luminescence are used to study InGaN/GaN core‐shell wires on the BM32 beamline at the European Synchrotron. Multimodal imaging of X‐ray fluorescence, deviatoric strain tensors and optical emissions is performed using simultaneous mapping.

Defect grating modes as superimposed grating states [PDF]
For a symmetric grating structure with a defect, we show that a fully transmitted defect mode in the band gap can be obtained as a superposition of two steady states: an amplified and an attenuated defect state.

Fabrication of strong long-period gratings in hydrogen-free fibers with 157-nm F
Long-period gratings were fabricated in standard telecommunication fiber (Corning SMF-28) by use of what is believed to be record short-wavelength light from a 157-nm F2 laser.

Widely tunable long-period fibre gratings
The authors report the realisation of a new type of long-period fibre grating with an enhanced temperature sensitivity of 8O nm/100/spl deg/C by the use of specially-designed fibre structures incorporating polymers. These new gratings should enable broadly tunable filters for communications systems.

Spatio-temporal coherent control of thermal excitations in solids
X-ray reflectivity (XRR) measurements of femtosecond laser-induced transient gratings are applied to demonstrate the spatio-temporal coherent control of thermally induced surface deformations on ultrafast timescales.
