Adaptive multilayer perceptrons with long- and short-term memories

Multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) with long- and short-term memories (LASTMs) are proposed for adaptive processing. The activation functions of the output neurons of such a network are linear, and thus the weights in the last layer affect the outputs of the network linearly and are called linear weights.

Short‐term and long‐term memory in single cells

Many approaches have been used to study short- and long-term memory. Bacteria detect chemical gradients using a memory obtained by the combination of a fast excitation process and a slow adaptation process. This model system, which has the advantages of extensive genetic and biochemical information, shows no features of long-term memory.

Effect of corticosteroids on short-term and long-term memory

The effect of acute high-dose glucocorticoid therapy on memory function in patients with acute optic neuritis (n = 9) and multiple sclerosis (n = 21) was studied. All patients had reversible impairment of long-term memory functions, whereas measures of short-term memory, attentional functions, and alertness remained unaffected.
