Sensitivity analysis of a deployable three longeron truss beam designed for minimum member loads during deployment

29th Structures, Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference, 1988
The significant design variables of a deployable three longeron truss beam, designed for minimum member loads during deployment, are identified and the sensitivity of the load level in the members of the truss beam due to variations of the design variables is established.

Advanced simulation and testing of composite TRAC longerons

2020
The simulation of deployable composite longerons is not trivial. An appropriate mathematical model should account for large rotations/displacements and an accurate (eventually layer-wise) description of strains and stresses in the far nonlinear regime. In this context, the present work proposes a novel modelling technique for the nonlinear analysis of ...

Symbolic Equations for the Stiffness and Strength of Straight Longeron Trusses

47th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference
14th AIAA/ASME/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference
7th, 2006
Abstract : Symbolic equations for the effective continuum stiffness and strength properties of several periodic beam-like trusses have been previously derived and are well documented in the literature. These equations are useful because they allow for rapid design and assessment of structures that would otherwise require a more time-consuming analysis.

QUANTITATIVE FRACTOGRAPHIC ANALYSES OF FATIGUE CRACK GROWTH IN LONGERONS OF IN‐SERVICE HELICOPTER ROTOR‐BLADES

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 1996
Abstract— An analysis is made of striation spacing measurements as observed on fatigue crack surfaces of specimens and longerons of helicopter rotor‐blades made from the aluminium alloy AVT. It is shown that, for the combined cyclic tensile stresses at various R‐ratios and static rotation angles, α, striation spacings were controlled by an equivalent ...

Lateral Longeron stamping through FEM simulation using an incremental approach

2006
Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS) have been intensively applied to automobile components to improve crashworthiness, without increasing the car body weight. The sheet metal forming process is often influenced by springback phenomenon that represents one of the most critical problems that can occur in the car body component fabrication.

Scale levels for fatigue fracture mechanisms of in-service crack growth in longerons of helicopter rotor blades

International Journal of Fracture, 2004
Cases of in-service fatigue crack growth in aluminium longerons of helicopter Mi-8 rotor blades were reviewed. Fatigue fracture surface patterns for micro- and meso-scale levels of crack growth mechanisms for in-service fatigued longerons are discussed.
