Favorable Lithofacies and Pore Characteristics of the Permian Longtan Formation Shale in the Southern Sichuan Basin

open access: yesEnergy Geoscience, 2023
The marine–continental transitional shale (MCTS) reservoirs of the Longtan Formation (LTF) are widely distributed in the Sichuan Basin. However, the LTF shale exhibits considerable variations in mineral composition and pore characteristics, which makes identifying the 'sweet spot'a challenging task.

The Geochemical Characteristics and Gas Potential of the Longtan Formation in the Eastern Sichuan Basin, China

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2019
Abstract The Longtan Formation in the Sichuan Basin contains abundant organic-rich mudstones and coals, however, few studies have been conducted about their gas potential. A comprehensive study has been conducted on the Longtan sediments in order to determine their critical properties and gas potential.

Multi-Scale Pore Structure Characteristics and Main Controlling Factors Analysis of Longtan Formation Shale in Northwest Guizhou

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
Marine-continental transitional shale strata are widely distributed in China and have high gas potential. The Longtan shales are a typical marine-continental transitional coal-bearing shale system in Northwest Guizhou. Low-temperature N2 adsorption experiments and high-pressure mercury injection experiments were carried out on the unweathered shale ...

Systematics and Palaeoecology of Fossil Plants From the Upper Permian Longtan Formation in Western Guizhou Province, Southwestern China

Historical Biology, 2021
A megafossil flora (i.e., Shuicheng flora) has been collected from the Upper Permian Longtan Formation coal-bearing rock series in the Wangjiazhai coal district, Shuicheng county, western Guizhou P...

Research and comparison of evaluation methods for shale reservoir saturation in Longtan Formation of marine-continent transition facies

Geophysics, 2022
ABSTRACT As a country rich in shale gas, China has developed relatively mature evaluation systems for marine shale exploration and conducted tentative developments for continental shale. However, limited research has been conducted on marine-continental transitional shale.

Formation Environment and Mechanism of Siderite Concretions in the Longtan Formation, Anhui Province (Eastern China)

Acta Geologica Sinica - English Edition
ABSTRACT Siderite concretions formed in different depositional settings exhibit distinct mineral paragenesis and can offer important clues to paleoenvironmental conditions. In this study, we conducted PLM, XRD, XRF and SEM–EDS analyses on the nucleus, mantle and wallrock of concretions found at Longtan Formation in the Chaohu area ...

Paleogeography and shale development characteristics of the Late Permian Longtan Formation in southeastern Sichuan Basin, China

Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2018
Abstract The Late Permian Longtan Formation is extensively developed within the southeastern Sichuan basin which lies on the western margin of the Yangtze Plate in southwestern China. The stratigraphy and sequence boundaries of the Longtan Formation were interpreted from a combined study of field data, well log data and various data analysis in order

Diagenetic evolution of Longtan Formation sandstones (Upper Permian), Meishan Basin, Zhejiang Province, China

Journal of Southeast Asian Earth Sciences, 1992
Abstract The Upper Permian Longtan Formation in the Meishan Basin was deposited predominantly in fluvial-deltaic and shallow marine-littoral environments. The sandstones have a complex diagenetic history and are cemented by authigenic quartz, feldspar, siderite, calcite, kaolinite and illite.

Geochemical and Geological Characterization of Marine–Continental Transitional Shales From Longtan Formation in Yangtze Area, South China

Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2018
Abstract Although previous research has provided useful insights into unconventional shale gas resources in recent years, the geochemical and geological characteristics of marine–continental transitional shale have not been studied systematically. During the Late Permian, Longtan Formation shales were widely deposited in the Yangtze area of South ...

Hydrocarbon-generating characteristics of barkinite-rich coals from Late Permian Longtan Formation, South China

Chinese Journal of Geochemistry, 2000
Leping coal (including barkinite-rich coal) is a unique kind of coal, which is widely distributed in the Late Permian Longtan Formation, South China. In this paper, Rock-Eval, Py-GC and simulation experiment via an open-system were used to study the hydrocarbon-generating potential, hydrocarbon composition, and hydrocarbon-generating model of ...
