Background and Purpose Musclin (osteocrin) is a skeletal muscle‐derived peptide that has been implicated in cardioprotective signalling pathways. Its relevance in cancer patients, who frequently experience muscle wasting and cardiotoxicity, remains unclear. This study aimed to determine whether circulating Musclin levels reflect functional capacity and

ABSTRACT There is a critical public health crisis regarding the infant mortality rate between black and white mothers in the USA. This issue is more pronounced in North Carolina, where black infants have a much higher infant mortality rate than whites.

ABSTRACT The milling process significantly influences the surface integrity of metallic components through machining induced near‐surface residual stresses. Modern hybrid machining processes, such as ultrasonic‐assisted milling (USAM), offer the potential to induce beneficial near‐surface compressive residual stresses compared to the near‐surface ...

The influence of a cooling water system on waterbird habitat use in a coastal environment
This study investigated the impact of a cooling water system at a nuclear power plant in northern Europe on coastal waterbird habitat use. In winter, the cooling water system provided preferential areas for waterbirds with warm productive waters, and, more importantly, with ice‐free areas.

Water availability and land‐use shape the diversity of Odonata in the Middle East
Odonata diversity in the Middle East depends on the availability of long‐lasting waters, emphasizing the importance of preserving stable aquatic habitats for biodiversity conservation under climate change‐driven droughts. Agricultural expansion is associated with increased Odonata species richness, but overall trait diversity remains limited ...

From inclusion to (neuro)divergent safe space in organizations
Abstract Neurodiversity in organizations remains an underexplored area, leaving gaps in understanding how organizations may create safe spaces for and with neurodivergent employees. This article engages with current neuro‐inclusion debates and advocates for a shift towards a framework of (neuro)divergent safe space, offering a more refined exploration ...

Emerging experimental and bioinformatic approaches in RNA interference‐based pest control research
Double‐stranded RNA (dsRNA) visualization, RNA‐induced silencing complex (RISC)‐bound sRNA‐seq and RNA degradomics allow investigating dsRNA uptake and processing, guide small interfering RNA selection and RISC‐mediated target mRNA cleavages. Transcriptomic and proteomic profiles of genome‐wide responses to dsRNA, including off‐target and compensatory ...

ABSTRACT This study examines how different policy issues and institutional factors influence the strength of political consensus and polarized voting in the United States (US) Congress between 1991 and 2020. Utilising the Jordan Tama important congressional votes dataset, the analysis investigates the impact of external factors, such as foreign trade ...

Unequal and Unstable: Income Inequality and Bank Risk
Abstract We present a model in which income inequality interacts with banks' risk‐taking incentives, generating financial instability. Competition and deposit insurance cause some banks to lend to lower‐income borrowers at underpriced rates, creating “risky banks” that fail in downturns, while others lend to higher‐income borrowers and avoid default ...

Quantum relative Lorenz curves
The theory of majorization and its variants, including thermomajorization, have been found to play a central role in the formulation of many physical resource theories, ranging from entanglement theory to quantum thermodynamics. Here we formulate the framework of quantum relative Lorenz curves, and show how it is able to unify majorization ...
