A state-of-art review of Loricariidae (Ostariophysi: Siluriformes) cytogenetics [PDF]

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology
Loricariidae is a Neotropical fish family divided into six subfamilies and ranking in third among the most biodiverse fish groups. This study conducts an updated review of the cytogenetic investigations within the family, discussing the trends in ...

Mitochondrial transcripts and associated heteroplasmies of Ancistrus spp. (Siluriformes: Loricariidae)

open access: yesData in Brief, 2015
This data-set complements our paper entitled “The use of transcriptomic next-generation sequencing data to assembly mitochondrial genomes of Ancistrus spp. (Loricariidae)” [6].

New insights into the putative XX/XY sex chromosomal system in blue-eyed red-fin pleco Hypostomus soniae (Siluriformes, Loricariidae). [PDF]

open access: yesJ Fish Biol
Abstract Blue‐eyed red‐fin pleco Hypostomus soniae (family Loricariidae) presented a putative sex system XX/XY in early stage. Aiming to explore the inter‐populational karyotypic variation and proposed emergence of the XX/XY system, we studied 13 H. soniae individuals (6 males, 7 females) from the Tapajós River.

Linking rivers, mixing faunas: How artificial connectivity between the Middle and Upper Paraná River basins shapes fish diversity in a tributary of the Itaipu Reservoir, Brazil. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Fish Biol
Abstract This work aimed to investigate the distribution and occurrence of fish species along the São Francisco Falso Braço Norte (SFFBN) River basin, a tributary of the Middle Paraná River basin now artificially connected to the Upper Paraná ecoregion, to evaluate how such connectivity may affect the biogeographic distribution and regional composition

A new species of Peckoltia (Siluriformes, Loricariidae) from the rapids of the Rio Tocantins-Araguaia basin, Brazil. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Fish Biol
Abstract Here, we describe a new species of Peckoltia (Loricariidae; Hypostominae) from the rapids of the Rio Tocantins‐Araguaia basin, previously identified as Peckoltia vittata, using an integrative taxonomy approach. The new species is distinguished from congeners by ventral region presenting diffuse stripes on surface, not presenting spots or ...

Complete Mitochondrial Genome of Gyrodactylus nigeri (Platyhelminthes: Monogenea). [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
The fish Yunnanilus niger is the host of Gyrodactylus nigeri. The mitochondrial genome of G. nigeri is 14,903 bp in length. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that this species belonged to the genus Gyrodactylus and Gyrodactylidae forms an independent monophyletic clade within Gyrodactylidea.

The species of Hemiancistrus (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) from Ecuador [PDF]

open access: yesZootaxa, 2017
At the Fish Collection of the Instituto de Ciencias Biológicas, Escuela Politécnica Nacional, Quito, three species traditionally grouped in the genus Hemiancistrus were identified: H. annectens (Regan 1904), H. landoni Eigenmann 1916, and a new specie described here.

Cytogenetic analysis of five Hypostomus species (Siluriformes, Loricariidae) [PDF]

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2011
In this work, we analyzed the karyotypes of five Hypostomus species. Hypostomus cf. heraldoi, from the Mogi-Guaçu River, had 2n = 72 chromosomes, with a nucleolar organizer region (NOR) in one chromosomal pair. Hypostomus regani, from the Mogi-Guaçu River had 2n = 72 chromosomes with NORs in two chromosomal pairs.

The taxonomic status of Farlowella colombiensis Retzer & Page 1997 with comments on species of the F. acus species group (Loricariidae: Loricariinae). [PDF]

open access: yesJ Fish Biol
Abstract The genus Farlowella has been historically challenging, in part due to the difficulty in defining diagnostic characters for defining and identifying the species. Farlowella colombiensis is one such example, whose diagnostic characters are based on caudal‐fin colour pattern, ventral pattern of body cover and anatomical details of the head, such
