Environmental DNA Reveals the Fish Community Structure Exhibited Instability and Trend of Miniaturization in the Xijiang River Basin of the Guizhou

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2025.
Monitoring of fish communities is of great significance for the management and sustainability of river ecosystems. Environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding technology has been demonstrated to be a highly sensitive biomonitoring tool. Nevertheless, it has seldom been tested in mountainous rivers within the geographically complex Karst region.

A new species of Peckoltia from the Upper Orinoco (Siluriformes, Loricariidae) [PDF]

open access: yesZooKeys, 2016
A new species of the suckermouth armored catfish genus Peckoltia is described from the lower Ventuari River, a tributary of the upper Orinoco River in Amazonas State, Venezuela. Specimens of this species were formerly included in the wide-ranging Amazonian species Peckoltia vittata, but a recent molecular phylogeny found Orinoco individuals to be ...

Ecohydrological Modelling in the Ondas River, Brazil: Implications for Fisheries Management

open access: yesEcohydrology, Volume 18, Issue 6, September 2025.
ABSTRACT This paper aimed to perform an ecohydrological analysis of the Ondas river basin, located in the Brazilian Cerrado, using the Physical Habitat Simulation (PHABSIM) model, in order to determine the monthly ecological flows for its lower course.

Identification of distinct evolutionary units in allopatric populations of Hypostomus cf. wuchereri Günther, 1864 (Siluriformes: Loricariidae): karyotypic evidence

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology
Few chromosomal reports are available for the endemic fish fauna from coastal basins in northeastern Brazil, and regional biodiversity remains partially or completely unknown. This is particularly true for Loricariidae, the most diverse family of armored

Improving Whole Biodiversity Monitoring and Discovery With Environmental DNA Metagenomics

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 25, Issue 6, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Environmental DNA (eDNA) metagenomics sequences all DNA molecules present in environmental samples and has the potential of identifying virtually any organism from which they are derived. However, due to unacceptable levels of false positives and negatives, this approach is underexplored as a tool for biodiversity monitoring across the tree of

Fish distribution across altitudinal gradients in the Upper Paraguay River Basin: Implications for conservation in the Pantanal region

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 7, Issue 7, July 2025.
This paper approaches the patterns in fish distribution across the altitudinal gradient in the Upper Paraguay River basin, from uplands to the floodplain. We compiled more than 75,000 available fish records and registered 342 fish species and your distribution along altitudinal gradient. Floodplain portion have higher species diversity than headwaters,

Karyotypic Description of Corumbataia cuestae (Pisces, Loricariidae, Hypoptopomatinae)

open access: yesCYTOLOGIA, 2005
In the present work, cytogenetic studies were performed in Corumbataia cuestae, a member of the subfamily Hypoptopomatinae (Siluriformes, Loricariidae). The specimens were collected in the Lapa Stream, a tributary of the Passa-Cinco River (Sao Paulo State, Brazil). It presented 2n=54 chromosomes with a karyotype constitution of 14M+10SM+3ST/A.
