Radiogenic Strontium‐ and Uranium‐Isotope Tracers of Water‐Rock Interactions and Hydrothermal Flow in the Upper Geyser Basin, Yellowstone Plateau Volcanic Field, USA

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 25, Issue 10, October 2024.
Abstract Natural radiogenic isotopes (primarily 87Sr/86Sr) from hot springs in the Upper Geyser Basin of the Yellowstone Plateau volcanic field and associated rocks were used to evaluate groundwater flow patterns, water‐rock reactions, and the extent of mixing between various groundwater sources.

Acidophilic sulphate‐reducing bacteria: Diversity, ecophysiology, and applications

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 16, Issue 5, October 2024.
Acidophilic sulphate‐reducing bacteria (aSRB) perform dissimilatory sulphate reduction under low pH and high metal conditions. They play key roles in the sulphur and carbon cycles in natural acidic environments, emphasized by their interactions with other microbial groups, which create an intricate ecological network. Potential applications of aSRB and

Geothermal and related volcanological and tectonic research in México

open access: yesGeofísica Internacional, 1992
Mexico has a large geothermal potential on the continental mainland as well as offshore. The installed capacity for power generation from high-enthalpy hydrothermal systems amounts at present to 700 MWe. One of the two most important geothermal provinces

Glacial and volcanic landforms in the upper catchment of Claro River, Central Chile (35.5°S): A Late Quaternary geomorphological case study

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 49, Issue 7, Page 2291-2307, 15 June 2024.
The upper catchment of the Claro river in the central Chilean Andes is described in terms of volcanic and glacial landforms seeking to establish a relative chronology associated to events during the late Pleistocene and Holocene, which is summarized in seven phases and presented as a conceptual model.

Alteration of the tree–soil microbial system triggers a feedback loop that boosts holm oak decline

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 38, Issue 2, Page 374-390, February 2024.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract In anthropic savanna ecosystems from the Iberian Peninsula (i.e. dehesa), complex interactions between climate change, pathogen outbreaks and human land use are presumed to be behind the observed increase in holm oak decline.

Hydrothermal Signatures Discovered in Outcropping Rocks of the Los Humeros Geothermal Field (Mexico): A Geochemometric Exploration Case Study

open access: yesGeofluids, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Hydrothermal geochemical signatures in outcropping rock samples of the super‐hot Los Humeros geothermal field were discovered by using an integrated geochemometric study of the mobility of components (major oxides) and trace elements. Chemical component and element mobilities were determined by using the Gresens–Grant equation for mass balances.

Pilot fruit drier for Los Azufres geothermal field, Michoacan, Mexico [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) has a Division in charge of the exploration of a geothermal reservoir located in Los Azufres, State of Michoacan. At present, CFE is only using the steam of the wells and rejecting the hot water that comes off associated with the steam.
