Thermal Evolution (1984-2005) of the Los Humeros (Mexico) Geothermal Fluids as Indicated by Chemical Geothermometers

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2010
The thermal evolution of Los Humeros geothermal fluids was estimated by using liquid and gas chemical geothermometers and results indicate two separated fluid entries to the wells: a (∼250°C) liquid produced from a shallower reservoir and a (> ...

Scaling of internal joint distance in the elbow of small‐ to medium‐sized mammals: Implications for range of motion analyses

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
We investigated the internal joint distances (IJDs) of the humero‐ulnar and humero‐radial joint, within a sample of 15 small‐ to medium‐sized mammals and report isometric results. We also found that joint poses had no effect on IJDs and that IJDs scale isometrically within small species.

New remains of Titanochelon richardi (Testudines, Testudinidae) from the Upper Miocene of the Vallès‐Penedès Basin: taxonomic and phylogenetic implications

open access: yesPapers in Palaeontology, Volume 11, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract The alpha‐taxonomy of continental giant tortoises (Testudinidae, Titanochelon) from the European Neogene is far from settled, which has implications for inferring their phylogenetic relationships. The diagnosis of the type species (Titanochelon bolivari) is dubious because it considered Titanochelon richardi as a junior subjective synonym ...

Crustal structure variations in south-central Mexico from receiver functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Mexico has a complex geological history that is typified by the distinctive terranes that are found in the south-central region. Crustal thickness variations often correlate with geological terranes that have been altered by several processes in the past,

Mosaic morphology in Podocnemididae revealed by a new turtle from the Middle Miocene La Venta Biome, Colombia

open access: yesPapers in Palaeontology, Volume 11, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract A new genus and species of podocnemidid turtle, Shakiremys colombiana, is described here from the Middle Miocene La Venta Biome, located in south‐central Colombia. The new taxon is represented by two specimens: one consisting of a complete skull and articulated shell, and the other of an articulated shell only.

Sassolite Precipitation at the Restless Campi Flegrei Volcano in Italy Points to Hydrothermal Flashing by Deep Boron‐Rich Brines

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Studying the behavior of dormant volcanoes is a major challenge in volcanology. Here, we conducted a 10‐year survey of hydrothermal mineralization at Campi Flegrei, an active volcano near Naples in Italy, which last erupted in 1538. Our survey revealed a significant output of boric acid at the hydrothermal sulfate discharge area of Pisciarelli,
