Size-age structure of oyster Crassostrea gigas in the Losos Bight (Aniva Bay, Okhotsk Sea)

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2020
Data on age structure, shell size (height, length, thickness) and weight of oyster Crassostrea gigas in the Losos Bight (Aniva Bay, Okhotsk Sea) are presented on results of the surveys conducted in 2018 and 2019.

Constrained body shape among highly genetically divergent allopatric lineages of the supralittoral isopod Ligia occidentalis (Oniscidea). [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2016
The rocky supralittoral isopod Ligia occidentalis sensu lato has a broad distribution in the eastern Pacific, where multiple allopatric genetically divergent lineages occur, which are exposed to marked environmental differences. Using geometric morphometrics, we detected statistically significant differences in body shape among highly divergent ...

STATE OF RESOURCES AND FISHERY OF MANILA CLAM RUDITAPES PHILIPPINARUM (ADAMS ET REEVE, 1848) IN THE LOSOS BIGHT AND BUSSE LAGOON (ANIVA BAY, OKHOTSK SEA) IN 2010–2016

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2019
Landings of manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum were steady high in 2010–2016 and exceeded the recommended volume that caused deterioration of its resources in the areas of large aggregations.

Assessing the current state of ecological connectivity in a large marine protected area system

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 35, Issue 2, Page 699-710, April 2021., 2021
Abstract The establishment of marine protected areas (MPAs) is a critical step in ensuring the continued persistence of marine biodiversity. Although the area protected in MPAs is growing, the movement of individuals (or larvae) among MPAs, termed connectivity, has only recently been included as an objective of many MPAs.

Brains, tools, innovation and biogeography in crows and ravens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: Crows and ravens (Passeriformes: Corvus) are large-brained birds with enhanced cognitive abilities relative to other birds. They are among the few non-hominid organisms on Earth to be considered intelligent and well-known examples exist of ...

The role of evolutionary time, diversification rates and dispersal in determining the global diversity of a large radiation of passerine birds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Aim: Variation in species diversity among different geographic areas may result from differences in speciation and extinction rates, immigration and time for diversification.

State of the pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas (Thunberg, 1793) population in the Losos Bight (Sakhalin Island) in 2013–2020

open access: yesThe researches of the aquatic biological resources of Kamchatka and the North-West Part of the Pacific Ocean, 2022
The state of the aggregation of Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas (Thunberg, 1793) in the Losos Bight (Aniva Bay) in 2013–2020 was assessed. For now, this aggregation has been in depression as a result of intense fishing. The abundance of the aggregation of commercial individuals (shell height >120 mm) was poor two recent years.

Temperature modulates compensatory responses to food limitation at metamorphosis in a marine invertebrate

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 8, Page 1564-1576, August 2020., 2020
A free Plain Language Summary can be found within the Supporting Information of this article. Abstract Under climate change, increased temperatures combined with food limitation may be critical for species with complex life cycles, if high growth rates characterize the larval development.

Factors influencing occupancy and density of salt marsh songbirds in northeast Florida

open access: yesJournal of Field Ornithology, Volume 91, Issue 2, Page 156-169, June 2020., 2020
Abstract Salt marshes and the organisms that depend on them are subject to a variety of anthropogenic threats. In Florida, Worthington’s Marsh Wrens (Cistothorus palustris griseus) and MacGillivray’s Seaside Sparrows (Ammospiza maritima macgillivraii) are species of concern that inhabit a small, narrow range of salt marsh in the northeastern corner of ...
