Dissipative loss in metamaterials and plasmonics
2012We present a comparison of different conductors and their resulting dissipative loss when used in metamaterials and plasmonic systems. For resonant metamaterials, we derive a figure-of-merit for the performance of conducting materials, and we apply it to metals, conducting oxides, high-Tc superconductors and graphene.

Modeling Tire Energy Dissipation for Power Loss Calculations
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1981<div class="htmlview paragraph">A mathematical formulation for calculating the energy dissipation in a steadily rolling tire is presented. The formulation uses a nonlinear constitutive equation for the viscoelastic stress response of the tire rubber.

Energy dissipation and attenuation under high-loss conditions
British Journal of Applied Physics, 1966The conventional relation Δ = π tan δ between free-vibration logarithmic decrement Δ and loss tangent or internal friction was shown by Parke to fail for high damping conditions. Here it is shown that the relation fails in the opposite direction to that found by Parke when Δ is a spatial decrement derived from attenuation of a plane wave travelling in ...

Energy dissipation and attenuation under high-loss conditions
Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1970It was shown in 1966 by MacDonald that the conventional relation Λ=πtan δ between spatial logarithmic decrement and loss tangent fails for high damping conditions and that the exact relation reads Λ = 2πtan δ/2. This means that if one calculates tan δ from the spatial logarithmic decrement and then uses the conventional relation, a value is found for ...

Dissipation Loss Effects in Isolated and Coupled Transmission Lines
IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 1977This paper describes a computer-aided analysis of dissipation losses in uniform isolated or coupled transmission lines for microwave and millimeter-wave integrated-circuit applications. The analysis employs a quasi-TEM model for isolated transmission lines and for the even- and odd-mode transmission lines associated with coupled-line structures.

Overcoming Linear Dissipation by Designed Nonlinear Loss
2014Artificially designed nonlinear loss is a rather novel and highly promising way to generate deterministically non-classical states of a bosonic mode. It has a number of advantages over more usual nonlinear unitary dynamics. Nonlinear coherent loss is able to produce a wide range of non-classical states, for example, arbitrary Fock states, and their ...

Synthesis of active filters taking into account dissipative losses
2004 14th International Crimean Conference "Microwave and Telecommunication Technology" (IEEE Cat. No.04EX843), 2004The calculation of the filters was carried out during two stages. There is determination of equivalent parameters in the first stage. The loaded attenuation of the filter extreme resonance circuit, natural attenuation of resonance circuits, negative attenuation of the loop containing an active element (for the active filters), and coefficients of ...
