Noncontact modulation calorimetry of metallic liquids in low Earth orbit [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Noncontact modulation calorimetry using electromagnetic heating and radiative heat loss under ultrahigh-vacuum conditions has been applied to levitated solid, liquid, and metastable liquid samples.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Wintering Conditions and Heat Loss during Hibernation in the Brown Long-Eared Bat

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The aim of this study was to estimate heat loss in the brown long-eared bat during hibernation depending on the refugioclimate conditions. The measured values of refugioclimate parameters were: ambient temperature (Ta) 3–10 °C, relative humidity (Rh) 74 ...

Solar transparent and thermally insulated silica aerogel for efficiency improvement of photovoltaic/thermal collectors

open access: yesCarbon Neutrality, 2023
Photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) utilization has been regarded as a promising technique to efficiently harvest solar energy, but its thermal efficiency highly degrades in cold seasons because of remarkable heat loss.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Enhanced Heat Transfer Study of Serrated Fins Based on Surface and Windward Surface Modification

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2023
The properties of new serrated fins were numerically investigated to improve the heat transfer properties of a serrated fin radiator while controlling the increase in pressure drop loss. The effects of different fin surfaces, windward surface structures,

Experimental Study on Heat Loss of a Single Screw Expander for an Organic Rankine Cycle System

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2020
For displacement expanders, the irreversible losses include leakage, friction, heat dissipation, and flow resistance. Currently, the research on the heat loss of expanders is scarce, especially with regards to experimental studies.

Physiological Studies of Heat Stress Acclimation During a Specific Exercise Regimen [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
Eleven subjects were used to determine if the exercise regimen of racquetball could be used as a heat stress acclimator. Core temperature, skin temperature, sweat production, and weight loss were recorded during a racquetball match.
