The compression–error trade-off for large gridded data sets [PDF]
The netCDF-4 format is widely used for large gridded scientific data sets and includes several compression methods: lossy linear scaling and the non-lossy deflate and shuffle algorithms.

Dynamic Visual Communication Image Framing of Graphic Design in a Virtual Reality Environment
This paper explores dynamic visual communication image framing for graphic design based on virtual reality algorithms; it defines corresponding feature representations by delineating layers of pixels, elements, relationships, planes, and applications ...

Lossless compression of VLSI layout image data [PDF]
We present a novel lossless compression algorithm called Context Copy Combinatorial Code (C4), which integrates the advantages of two very disparate compression techniques: context-based modeling and Lempel-Ziv (LZ) style copying. While the algorithm can be applied to many lossless compression applications, such as document image compression, our ...

On Lossless Quantum Data Compression With a Classical Helper [PDF]
After K. Bostro/spl uml/m and T. Felbinger observed that lossless quantum data compression does not exist unless decoders know the lengths of codewords, they introduced a classical noiseless channel to inform the decoder of a quantum source about the lengths of codewords.

Data reduction in the ITMS system through a data acquisition model with self-adaptive sampling rate
Long pulse or steady state operation of fusion experiments require data acquisition and processing systems that reduce the volume of data involved. The availability of self-adaptive sampling rate systems and the use of real-time lossless data compression

Virtually Lossless Compression of Astrophysical Images
We describe an image compression strategy potentially capable of preserving the scientific quality of astrophysical data, simultaneously allowing a consistent bandwidth reduction to be achieved.

Programmable Stepwise Heteroepitaxial Growth of Colloidal Crystals With Different Phases
Stepwise heteroepitaxial growth is adapted to colloidal crystal engineering with DNA, enabling face‐centered cubic (fcc) facets to grow on body‐centered cubic (bcc) crystals with 110 facets. This approach tolerates large lattice mismatches, extending heteroepitaxy beyond the limits of conventional atomic systems.

Weighting of double exponential distributed data in lossless image compression
A probability assignment technique for weighting-based double exponential data in lossless image compression is introduced. It is shown that this technique has a favorable effect on compression when compared with traditional estimation ...
