Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

IMPROVING EFFICIENCY IN IMAGE ENCRYPTION AND COMPRESSION USING PERMUTATIONS & PREDICTIONS

open access: yesICTACT Journal on Image and Video Processing, 2017
Due to rapid growth in image sizes, an alternate of numerically lossless coding named visually lossless coding is considered to reduce storage size and lower data transmission.

Importance of Watermark Lossless Compression in Digital Medical Image Watermarking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Large size data requires more storage space, communication time, communication bandwidth and degrades host image quality when it is embedded into it as watermark. Lossless compression reduces data size better than lossless one but with permanent loss of

Hardware architecture for lossless image compression based on context-based modeling and arithmetic coding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper we present a novel hardware architecture for context-based statistical lossless image compression, as part of a dynamically reconfigurable architecture for universal lossless compression.

AutomataGPT: Transformer‐Based Forecasting and Ruleset Inference for Two‐Dimensional Cellular Automata

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We introduce AutomataGPT, a generative pretrained transformer (GPT) trained on synthetic spatiotemporal data from 2D cellular automata to learn symbolic rules. Demonstrating strong performance on both forward and inverse tasks, AutomataGPT establishes a scalable, domain‐agnostic framework for interpretable modeling, paving the way for future ...

A Comparison of Compression Codecs for Maritime and Sonar Images in Bandwidth Constrained Applications

open access: yesComputers, 2019
Since lossless compression can only achieve two to four times data compression, it may not be efficient to deploy lossless compression in bandwidth constrained applications. Instead, it would be more economical to adopt perceptually lossless compression,

Data Compression in the Petascale Astronomy Era: a GERLUMPH case study

open access: yes, 2015
As the volume of data grows, astronomers are increasingly faced with choices on what data to keep -- and what to throw away. Recent work evaluating the JPEG2000 (ISO/IEC 15444) standards as a future data format standard in astronomy has shown promising ...

A Novel Rate Control Algorithm for Onboard Predictive Coding of Multispectral and Hyperspectral Images [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Predictive coding is attractive for compression onboard of spacecrafts thanks to its low computational complexity, modest memory requirements and the ability to accurately control quality on a pixel-by-pixel basis.

Arbitrary Orthogonal Polarization Decomposition and Routing With Complex Amplitude Modulation via Wheel‐of‐Fortune‐Inspired Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a receiver‐transmitter‐integrated metasurface that decomposes an incident wave into orthogonal components and routes them into separate channels. Inspired by a “Wheel‐of‐Fortune” mechanism, it enables independent control over the amplitude, phase, and polarization of the transmitted wave.
