Residual‐error prediction based on deep learning for lossless image compression

Electronics Letters, 2018
A novel residual-error prediction method based on deep learning with application in lossless image compression is introduced. The proposed method employs machine learning tools to minimise the residual error of the employed prediction tools. Experimental

Adaptive Predictor for Lossless Image Compression

Computing, 1999
A new method for lossless image compression of grey-level images is proposed. The image is treated as a set of stacked bit planes. The compressed version of the image is represented by residuals of a non-linear local predictor spanning the current bit plane as well as a few neighbouring ones.

A progressive Lossless/Near-Lossless image compression algorithm

IEEE Signal Processing Letters, 2002
A novel image compression technique is presented that incorporates progressive transmission and near-lossless compression in a single framework. Experimental performance of the proposed coder proves to be competitive with the state-of-the-art compression schemes.

Nearly-lossless autoregressive image compression

Pattern Recognition Letters, 1999
Abstract A flexible accurate technique for improving image compression properties with linear image compressing transforms is presented. This is a reliable iterative algorithm for the nearly-lossless autoregressive (NLAR) compression of images, which permits control of errors produced in each pixel intensity while preserving the original image ...

Multiband Lossless Compression of Hyperspectral Images

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2009
Hyperspectral images exhibit significant spectral correlation, whose exploitation is crucial for compression. In this paper, we investigate the problem of predicting a given band of a hyperspectral image using more than one previous band. We present an information-theoretic analysis based on the concept of conditional entropy, which is used to assess ...

Lossless Compression of Emission Tomography Images

2000
An adaptive lossless compression method using predictive coding with the Rice codes is proposed for low resolution three-dimensional biomedical images. The method is evaluated with the brain positron emission tomography (PET) images. The results are considerably better than with static arithmetic coding.
