Lossless Compression of Dithered Images

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2013
In order to display high-bit resolution images on low-bit resolution displays, bit resolution needs to be reduced. This problem is vital especially for low-cost or small (mobile) devices. To untangle the bit reduction problem, special color quantization algorithms, called dithering, are employed on high-bit resolution images.

High‐Resolution Ion Mobility as an Alternative to Quadrupole‐Based Precursor Isolation for Reducing Chimeric Fragmentation Spectra in Bottom‐Up Proteomics

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT To assess the potential for high resolution ion mobility (HRIM) as an alternative means of precursor isolation for mass spectrometry fragmentation analysis we performed a meta‐analysis of predicted tryptic peptide features from the human proteome to measure the rate of chimeric spectrum generation relative to traditional quadrupole‐based ...

A Near-Lossless Image Compression Algorithm Suitable for Hardware Design in Wireless Endoscopy System

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2007
In order to decrease the communication bandwidth and save the transmitting power in the wireless endoscopy capsule, this paper presents a new near-lossless image compression algorithm based on the Bayer format image suitable for hardware design.

Locally adaptive vector quantization: Data compression with feature preservation [PDF]

open access: yes
A study of a locally adaptive vector quantization (LAVQ) algorithm for data compression is presented. This algorithm provides high-speed one-pass compression and is fully adaptable to any data source and does not require a priori knowledge of the source ...

Fast lossless image compression method

open access: yesMachine Learning and Data Analysis, 2015
A suggested digital image compression method is characterized by simplicity of implementation and the lack of computing operations at the stage of prediction. Background: Miniature space watch facilities (small satellites) cannot provide a continuous data transmission because of the severely constrained requirements for energy resources usage ...

Opportunities for 2D‐Material‐Based Multifunctional Devices and Systems in Bioinspired Neural Networks

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Bio‐inspired computing offers a route to highly energy‐efficient artificial intelligence. The unique physical properties of two‐dimensional (2D) materials can further enhance such computing approaches. This perspective highlights recent developments in 2D materials‐based neuromorphic devices and discusses future opportunities for integrating such novel

Temporal Dependency‐Aware Trajectory‐Level Behavioural Metric for Exploration in Reinforcement Learning

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Intrinsic motivation serves as the predominant paradigm of exploration in reinforcement learning. In pursuit of an informative and robust state representation, the behavioural metric groups behaviourally equivalent states together, which share the same single‐step reward and transition distribution.

Toward an image compression algorithm for the high-resolution electronic still camera [PDF]

open access: yes
Taking pictures with a camera that uses a digital recording medium instead of film has the advantage of recording and transmitting images without the use of a darkroom or a courier.

FPGA‐accelerated streaming data reduction achieving an average compression ratio over 8000 in a 17.4 kHz, 840 kpixel CITIUS detector for quasi‐elastic gamma‐ray scattering

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
A high‐throughput field‐programmable gate array (FPGA)‐accelerated data‐reduction and ‐analysis pipeline combined with high‐performance computing enables the continuous handling of a 216 Gbps data stream from quasi‐elastic gamma‐ray scattering experiments at SPring‐8.We present a data‐acquisition and ‐analysis framework for quasi‐elastic gamma‐ray ...
