These high resolutions allow computer-aided diagnosis, which are exploited by radiologists to identify relevant medical areas, known as Regions of Interest (ROI). In image compression, ROI coding allows to recover the ROI earlier than the rest of the image.

Passive lossless turn-on snubber energy recovery in high frequency power converters
Proceedings of IECON '93 - 19th Annual Conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics, 2002This paper describes three passive lossless circuits for recovering turn-on snubber energy, which are applicable to high frequency power converters. The inductive trapped energy, which is load current dependent, is recovered into the DC supply, load or both, at switch turn-off.

Although VCS does not provide a competitive reconstruction quality, its stacking-to-see property clearly has the intended applications.
