Advanced Rating Method of Airborne Sound Insulation

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2016
This paper describes an advanced calculation scheme based on the loudness level linked to the specific fluctuation strength yielding a weighted normalized loudness level difference as a single number value.

Influence of Color on Loudness Perception of Household Appliances: Case of a Coffee Maker

open access: yesDesigns, 2022
Previous studies have investigated the effect of color on the assessment of loudness in various cases, such as cars, trains, and concert halls. This study sets out to explore the influence of color on the loudness perception of household appliances, in ...

BINAURAL ADDITIVITY OF LOUDNESS [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, 1972
A definition of binaural additivity is given in terms of the theory of simultaneous conjoint measurement. Additivity is then tested and verified by a conjoint measurement procedure. Methods for deriving psychophysical scales from such procedures are discussed, and the experimental scales are compared with the usual ratio scales for loudness, derived ...

Agreement and Reliability of Tinnitus Loudness Matching and Pitch Likeness Rating

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The ability to reproducibly match tinnitus loudness and pitch is important to research and clinical management. Here we examine agreement and reliability of tinnitus loudness matching and pitch likeness ratings when using a computer-based method to ...

Evaluation of the Importance of Time-Frequency Contributions to Speech Intelligibility in Noise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Recent studies on binary masking techniques make the assumption that each time-frequency (T-F) unit contributes an equal amount to the overall intelligibility of speech.

The State of High‐Resolution Imaging of the Human Inner Ear: A Look Into the Black Box

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
High‐resolution imaging of the cochlea is challenged by numerous unique aspects of this organ, where sensorineural cells, crucial for hearing, are too small for conventional modalities like magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography. This article reviews current imaging techniques, emerging technologies, and innovations aimed at improving ...

On Black Hole Masses and Radio Loudness in AGN

open access: yes, 2000
The distribution of radio to optical fluxes in AGN is bimodal. The physical origin for this bimodality is not understood. In this Letter I describe observational evidence, based on the Boroson & Green PG quasar sample, that the radio loudness bimodality ...

The jet-disc connection: evidence for a reinterpretation in radio loud and radio quiet active galactic nuclei [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
To constrain models of the jet-disc connection, we explore Eddington ratios reported in Foschini (2011) and interpret them in relation to the values in Sikora et al.

Revisit the fraction of radio-loud narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxies with LoTSS DR1 [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Radio-Loud narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s), especially the extremely radio-loud ones, are widely accepted as the jetted versions of NLS1s. We explore the radio-loud fraction for NLS1s with recently released LoTSS DR1 at 150 MHz. The radio detection rate is about 28\% for LoTSS DR1.

Vehicle Noise: Comparison of Loudness Ratings in the Field and the Laboratory [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Objective: Distorted loudness perception is one of the main complaints of hearing aid users. Being able to measure loudness perception correctly in the clinic is essential for fitting hearing aids. For this, experiments in the clinic should be able to reflect and capture loudness perception as in everyday-life situations.
