It is said that the Encyclopédists had no interest in the Middle Ages. However, Louis de Jaucourt, author of a number of Encyclopédie articles that discuss troubadour texts, praised Occitan. His sources included Fauchet, Rymer, and especially Nostredame, such that fictions created by the latter persisted well into the 18th century.
