The Influence of Annealing on the Sb Layer in the Synthesis of [001]‐Oriented Sb2Se3 Film for Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Gas Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
[001]‐oriented Sb2Se3 film with improved crystallinity and adjusted composition is achieved via a new thermal treatment approach consisting of preliminary annealing of the Sb layer before its selenization. The findings of this work demonstrate enhanced charge carriers' transportation, a stable performance, and an improvement of H2 generation from ...

Louse fly (Diptera, Hippoboscidae) associations with raptors in southern Canada, with new North American and European records

open access: yesInternational Journal for Parasitology: Parasites and Wildlife, 2021
Louse flies (Diptera, Hippoboscidae) are ectoparasites often found on birds. As they spend most of their life on their host, they are not often collected or studied. Hence, little is known about their species richness and prevalence on raptors in Canada.

In vitro efficacy of alphacypermethrin on the buffalo louse Haematopinus tuberculatus (Burmeister, 1839). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In Italy buffalo farms adopted intensive breeding techniques, however the high density of animals in intensive breeding favours the diffusion of ectoparasites, such as louse. The aim of this study was to determine the in vitro efficacy of the insecticide

Chewing lice (Insecta: Phthiraptera) from estrildid finches (Aves: Passeriformes: Estrildidae) and louse-flies (Insecta: Diptera: Hippoboscidae) from birds in Senegal, with descriptions of three new species of the genus Brueelia

open access: yesZootaxa, 2019
Descriptions and illustrations are given for three new species of the genus Brueelia Kéler from estrildid finches (Estrildidae) from Senegal. They and their type hosts are: B. fasciata from Amadina fasciata, B.

Direct Surface Modification of the Epidermis Using Mussel‐Inspired Polydopamine with Multiple Anti‐Biofouling Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Surface modification using mussel‐derived polydopamine (PDA) is a versatile and robust biocompatible strategy that enables direct application to various epidermal surfaces, regardless of their morphological complexity or surface characteristics. The PDA‐coated epidermis exhibits multiple anti‐biofouling functionalities, including antibacterial and anti‐

A Cosmetically Acceptable Dye Product to Improve Detection of Head Louse Eggs and Nits

open access: yesCosmetics, 2020
Removing head louse eggshells and nits after a successful pediculicide treatment is often made more difficult because it is not easy to see them all amongst the hairs.

Two Bacterial Genera, Sodalis and Rickettsia, Associated with the Seal Louse Proechinophthirus fluctus (Phthiraptera: Anoplura)

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 2016
Roughly 10% to 15% of insect species host heritable symbiotic bacteria known as endosymbionts. The lice parasitizing mammals rely on endosymbionts to provide essential vitamins absent in their blood meals.

Fabrication of a Lipopolysaccharide‐Targeting Peptide‐Based Colloid for Alleviating Carbapenem‐Resistant Enterobacteriaceae‐Induced Cutaneous Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, a novel cationic peptide, IW is designed and synthesized, with a tandem‐repeat sequence demonstrating potent activities against a broad spectrum of clinically relevant Carbapenem‐resistant Enterobacteriaceae in both the planktonic and biofilm states. IW is then formulated with P407 to form IW‐P407 colloids.

Variation in mitochondrial minichromosome composition between blood-sucking lice of the genus Haematopinus that infest horses and pigs

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2014
Background The genus Haematopinus contains 21 species of blood-sucking lice, parasitizing both even-toed ungulates (pigs, cattle, buffalo, antelopes, camels and deer) and odd-toed ungulates (horses, donkeys and zebras).
