Love as Trauma: Revisiting Joe Wright’s Atonement
This paper examines romantic love in the film Atonement as a traumatic experience structured through the concept of ‘belatedness,’ as theorized by Cathy Caruth. Rather than presenting love as immediate or fulfilled, the film constructs it as something understood only after its irreversible disruption.
