A love wave sensor for (bio)chemical sensing in liquids

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 1994
Abstract It has been shown recently that a properly designed Love wave sensor is very promising for (bio)chemical sensing because of its high sensitivity. Furthermore, it is well known that a Love wave has a pure shear horizontal polarization and therefore no elastic interaction with an ideal liquid.

Surface Acoustic Love Waves Sensor for Chemical and Electrochemical Detection

Volume 2: Automotive Systems, Bioengineering and Biomedical Technology, Fluids Engineering, Maintenance Engineering and Non-Destructive Evaluation, and Nanotechnology, 2006
The present work is an experimental study of shear horizontal surface acoustic wave (SH-SAW) miniaturized sensors which offer a high potential for electrochemical applications in liquid environments and in real-time. Our devices consist of a 42° rotYX lithium tantalate (LiTaO3) substrate coated with an SU8 photoresist polymer in order to produce ...

A love-wave sensor for direct detection of biofunctionalized nanoparticles

2009 IEEE International Frequency Control Symposium Joint with the 22nd European Frequency and Time forum, 2009
In this work, we have designed and manufactured Love wave sensors equipped with a liquid cell for the detection of bio-functionalized nano-particules in water. Measurements using these devices are based on the determination of velocity and propagation loss changes of a guided acoustic shear wave generated by Inter-Digital Transducers (IDTs) patterned ...

Array of Love-wave sensors to detect CWA low-levels

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2011
Different Love‐wave sensors have been developed in order to detect low‐levels of chemical warfare agents for security applications. The different types of sensors have been realized using quartz and LiTaO3, as piezoelectric substrates, and SiO2 and Novolac, as guiding layers.

Design and fabrication of Love-wave sensors: An experimental study

Proceedings of the 8th Spanish Conference on Electron Devices, CDE'2011, 2011
In this work a Love-wave device based on Quartz/SiO 2 has been developed considering some aspects in the design and the fabrication, in a manner that twelve different designs have been fabricated and studied their frequency response. This has allowed us to choose the most suitable device configuration in order to use it as sensor in a gas or and ...

Love mode surface acoustic wave sensors for cellular toxicity sensing

2014 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium, 2014
Shear mode acoustic wave sensor combined with living cells has been demonstrated to be a powerful tool to evaluate diverse cellular functions, including cell attachment and spreading, cytoskeleton remodeling, cell growth, and morphological changes. Among various shear mode acoustic wave devices, one type of high-frequency surface acoustic wave (SAW ...

Simulations, fabrication, and characterization of diamond‐coated Love wave‐type surface acoustic wave sensors

physica status solidi (a), 2015
Diamond is an attractive material for biosensing applications due its chemical stability and biocompatibility and the recent development of various covalent attachment schemes for biomolecules. Acoustic sensors are highly sensitive with the capability to detect minute mass variation by monitoring changes in their electro‐mechanical resonance frequency.
