Generalized Love waves

open access: yesEurophysics Letters (EPL), 2002
We present a generalized dispersion equation for shear horizontally polarized acoustic waves in a system of a finite thickness substrate covered by a finite thickness solid layer having a lower shear acoustic speed. The solutions to the equation describe both layer guided Love waves and resonant acoustic plate modes.

Global Love wave overtone measurements [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2007
Love wave phase velocities for fundamental and higher modes are difficult to measure because the different modes cannot easily be separated. Following Yoshizawa and Kennett (2002), we generate suites of path specific one‐dimensional shear wave velocity profiles using the Neighbourhood Algorithm of Sambridge (1999a).

Conversion of Love waves in a forest of trees [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical review B, 2017
We inspect the propagation of shear polarized surface waves akin to Love waves through a forest of trees of same height atop a guiding layer on a soil substrate.

Testing strong gravity with gravitational waves and Love numbers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The LIGO observation of GW150914 has inaugurated the gravitational-wave astronomy era and the possibility of testing gravity in extreme regimes. While distorted black holes are the most convincing sources of gravitational waves, similar signals might be ...

Analysis of Electrically Shorted and Open Cases on Love Waves Propagating in Piezoelectric Layer Embedded over a Fiber-Reinforced Substrate [PDF]

open access: yesMechanics of Advanced Composite Structures
The article incisively analyzes the impact of piezoelectricity on Love wave transmission in an inhomogeneous bi-layered structure consisting of smoothly embedded thin piezoelectric material bonded to a semi-infinite fiber-reinforced medium.

Attenuation of Seismic Energy in the Upper Mantle [PDF]

open access: yes, 1965
The amplitude attenuation and phase dispersion for Love and Rayleigh waves in the period range 50 to 300 sec is determined from two earthquakes by digital techniques.

Highly Confined Love Waves Modes by Defects States in a Phononic Crystal Based on Holey-SiO2/ST-Cut Quartz Structure

open access: yesProceedings, 2018
We investigate the properties of highly confined Love modes in a phononic crystal based on an array of holes made in SiO2 deposited on ST-cut Quartz substrate.
