A need for a colorimeter with low capital and maintenance costs has been suggested for countries with foreign exchange problems and no local medical instrumentation industry. This paper puts forward a design for such a device based on a domestic light-bulb, photographic filters and photovoltaic cells.

Low-Cost Testers: Are They Really Low Cost?
IEEE Design & Test of Computers, 1985Initial ATE capital investments can affect overall test manufacturing costs as shown in this analysis, which compares a $5000 semiconductor tester with a $900,000 system (purchase price). The application is wafer testing of logic die, and the product has a five-year lifetime.

2008 IEEE/ACM/IFIP Workshop on Embedded Systems for Real-Time Multimedia, 2008
Nowadays, digital image processing is the most common form of image processing. Digital image processing makes it possible to enhance image features of interest while attenuating detail irrelevant to a given application, and then extract useful information about the scene from the enhanced image.

Periodontology 2000, 2012
AbstractPeriodontitis is a complex infectious disease that affects low‐income individuals disproportionately. Periodontitis is associated with specific bacterial species and herpesviruses, and successful prevention and treatment of the disease is contingent upon effective control of these pathogens.

Low-cost digital teleradiology
European Journal of Radiology, 1995A teleradiology link based on standard personal computers and a flat-bed CCD scanner was tested. A 64 kbit/s dial-up digital ISDN telephone line was used for transmission. A total of 254 films (174 uncompressed, 80 compressed) were sent. Ninety-six per cent of the uncompressed images and 98% of the compressed images were considered technically ...

Low Cost VR Meets Low Cost Multi-touch
2010This paper presents the design, implementation, and lessons learned from developing a multi-surface VR visualization environment. The environment combines a head-tracked vertical VR display with a multi-touch table display. An example user interface technique called Shadow Grab is presented to demonstrate the potential of this design.
