A study of the low-cycle fatigue failure of a galvanised steel lighting column

open access: yes, 2009
This paper presents the results of a low-cycle fatigue test on a galvanised steel lighting column. The aim of the test was to simulate the behaviour of the column undergoing large amplitude resonant vibration caused by wind.

Associations of Lifestyle‐Related Factors and Psoriatic Arthritis Disease Activity: The Dutch South West Psoriatic Arthritis Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This study aims to investigate lifestyle‐related factors in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and their association with disease activity measurements. Methods This multicenter cohort included 938 patients who were newly diagnosed with PsA between 2013 and 2023.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Effect of fiber loading directions on the low cycle fatigue of intraply carbon-Kevlar reinforced epoxy hybrid composites

open access: yesComposite structures, 2019
Effect of fiber orientation on tensile and low cycle fatigue of intraply hybrid composites was investigated. In this work, intraply carbon/Kevlar fabric/epoxy hybrid composites were tested for static and cyclic loadings at 0°, 45° and 90° corresponding ...

A probabilistic high cycle fatigue model applied to cast Al-Si alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this work, the high cycle fatigue behavior of cast hypo-eutectic Al-Si alloys is investigated. It is observed that two different coexisting fatigue initiation mechanisms can occur in these materials depending on the presence of different ...

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...
