PCSK9 gene mutations and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol

Clinica Chimica Acta, 2014
Proprotein convertase subtilisin-like/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) is a newly-identified circulating protein in cholesterol metabolism in mammals, including humans, which has emerged as a new pharmacological target for hypocholesterolemia. It has been demonstrated that PCSK9 gene mutations are associated with hyper- or hypocholesterolemia.

Alirocumab for low-density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Lowering

Future Cardiology, 2018
Ischemic heart disease and stroke are the leading causes of death in the world currently. Both of these conditions are primarily caused by atherosclerosis, the underlying pathophysiology of which is the deposition of lipid, specifically low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) within the arterial bed. PCSK9, is a proteolytic enzyme, which indirectly

Update on low-density lipoprotein cholesterol quantification

Current Opinion in Lipidology, 2019
Purpose of review β-Quantification is considered the reference measurement procedure for low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). However, this technique is time-consuming and thus is inappropriate for routine clinical practice. Therefore, the Friedewald equation or homogeneous assays have been widely utilized.

Calculation of Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1991
To the Editor.— In their article, Leighton et al1used Systeme International (SI) units to report their results with the corresponding traditional units in brackets. However, the equation they included in their "Methods" section for the calculation of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) can be applied only with the latter units.2The correct ...

New Therapies for Reducing Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol

Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinics of North America, 2014
Although the past 4 decades have been the most productive in transitioning from an low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) hypothesis to demonstration of clinical benefit, cardiovascular disease remains a major cause of mortality and morbidity. It is fortunate that most of the effective lipid-lowering drugs, the statins, have become generic and ...

Low density lipoprotein cholesterol (CLDL) and lipoprotein phenotyping.

The American journal of medical technology, 1975
Using an estimation of CLDL, 522 sera from 311 men and 211 women were studied. Lipoprotein phenotyping was done with and without knowledge of CLDL. Two hundred sixty-four of the 522 patients were considered abnormal without knowledge of CLDL. Interpretation was changed in 70 cases when CLDL was considered.

Novel Therapies for Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Reduction

The American Journal of Cardiology, 2016
Although many clinical trials and meta-analyses have demonstrated that lower serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels are associated with proportionately greater reductions in the risk of cardiovascular disease events, not all patients with hypercholesterolemia are able to attain risk-stratified LDL-C goals with statin monotherapy ...

Perspectives on low-density lipoprotein cholesterol goal achievement

Current Medical Research and Opinion, 2008
Elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) are associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). European and US guidelines now recommend lower LDL-C levels, particularly in high-risk patients. Although LDL-C treatment goals to reduce the risk of CHD are clear, many patients do not reach their LDL-C goals.Examine ...

Utilization of calculated low density lipoprotein cholesterol and measured low density lipoprotein cholesterol in Siriraj Hospital.

Journal of the Medical Association of Thailand = Chotmaihet thangphaet, 2007
A study to determine the utilization of calculated low density lipoprotein (c-LDL) cholesterol and measured low density lipoprotein (m-LDL) cholesterol was conducted. The test results of total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol and m-LDL-cholesterol from the same individuals aged > or = 18 years who had the tests done at the Department of ...
