Low Power Consumption Substrate-Emitting DFB Quantum Cascade Lasers

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2017
In the present work, an ultra-low power consumption substrate-emitting distributed feedback (DFB) quantum cascade laser (QCL) was developed. The continuous-wave (CW) threshold power dissipation is reduced to 0.43 W at 25 °C by shortening the cavity ...

Tunable biaxial strain device for low-dimensional materials

open access: yesReview of Scientific Instruments, 2023
Strain is attracting much interest as a mean to tune the properties of thin exfoliated two-dimensional materials and their heterostructures. Numerous devices to apply tunable uniaxial strain are proposed in the literature, but only few for biaxial strain, often with a trade-off between maximum strain and uniformity, reversibility, and device size.

Hot Plate Annealing at a Low Temperature of a Thin Ferroelectric P(VDF-TrFE) Film with an Improved Crystalline Structure for Sensors and Actuators

open access: yesSensors, 2014
Ferroelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) (P(VDF-TrFE)) copolymer 70/30 thin films are prepared by spin coating. The crystalline structure of these films is investigated by varying the annealing temperature from the ferroelectric phase to

Superconductivity emerging from a stripe charge order in IrTe2 nanoflakes

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Superconductivity often appears due to suppression of competing electronic orders. Here, the authors present a contrary example showing a superconducting dome inside the parent phase with a stripe charge order in IrTe2 nanoflakes and identify their ...

First-Principles Study on the Nanofriction Properties of Diamane: The Thinnest Diamond Film

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
Diamane, the thinnest sp3-hybridized diamond film, has attracted great interest due to its excellent mechanical, electronic, and thermal properties inherited from both graphene and diamond.

Fast Swept-Wavelength, Low Threshold-Current, Continuous-Wave External Cavity Quantum Cascade Laser

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2018
We present a low threshold-current and fast wavelength-tuning external cavity quantum cascade laser (EC-QCL) using a scanning galvanometer in the Littman-Metcalf cavity geometry.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Anomalous Mode Transitions in High Power Distributed Bragg Reflector Quantum Cascade Lasers

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2019
In this paper, an anomalous spectral data of distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) emitting around 7.6 μm is presented. The two-section DBR lasers, consisting of a gain section and an unpumped Bragg reflector, display an output ...
