Improved sound absorption with 3D-printed micro-perforated sandwich structures
The micro-perforated sandwich structure based on triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) is a lightweight, high-strength and multi-functional structure, which integrates heat exchange, impact resistance, energy absorption, etc., and has been widely used ...

Acoustic plate-valve resonator for low-frequency sound absorption
An acoustic plate-valve resonator is developed and optimized to maximize absorption by enhancing the Helmholtz resonance with coincident structural vibrations of the plate-valve. The current research initially examines the concept experimentally with a 3D printed valve.

Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Variability of low-frequency sound absorption in the ocean: pH dependence [PDF]
Measured values of absorption coefficients in sea water below 1 kHz show a marked regional dependence; for example, the value in the North Atlantic is found to be about twice that in the North Pacific. Recent laboratory measurements have demonstrated that the absorption mechanism is a boric acid—borate relaxation. Since this boric acid reaction acts as

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
